Crashed My Car On Boxing Day...

Recommended Posts

any chance of posting up a pic of the damage? from what you say - rear qtr panel hitting into tree + rear wheel bent you might be up for some serious cash to fix it ($6K+ i would imagine). You will need new rim, suspension (std or aftermarket whichever u have) qtr panel may need to be replaced, will need to be painted. Depending on how hard you hit the tree the damage may go into the boot area which means you will need more cash for them to fix that up too. Have a look in your boot, take out the spare wheel and look for signs of where the boot may have buckled. bashing the rear wheel aint cool either - that will all need to be straightened out and the car may never drive true again unless it is fixed spot on.

Good luck with the repairs man, hope it doesnt cost too much - money and friendship wise!

TiNTiN i would highly recommend ylwgtr2 (Troy), i have seen 3 great examples of his work and would use him myself, should i ever have an unfortunate accident.

Glad to hear you and your friends are safe, just remember that Skylines are a high performance cars and allowing friends to drive it is not always wise :P.

if u cant afford insurance for a skyline, then u cant afford to own a skyline...

this applies to any car... what if ur friend had crashed into me on that corner instead of a tree??

then who wouldve paid for my smashed car?

ur 3rd party insurance sure as hell wouldnt of!!!!!!

get some insurance or buy a car that u can afford to insure...

im assume ur the biggest **** head ever (GTS_DUY).... i do have insurance but 3 rd party and u dont even know the whole story or what the damage is

dude... ur the idiot.

Obviosuly no matter what the damage is, or what the story is...

You let ur mate drive the car, your mate crashed it, and he wouldnt have done it if he was driving sensibly. Plain and simple. He either

1) Cant drive

2) Has no respect for a high powered car

Only idiotic behaviour results in "accidents" like that. Enjoy the flaming you get cause its well deserved... bring back memories of MINES_DATSUN IMO

yes but all those accidents were high speed idiocy theres a HUGE difference.

Dont comment until u know the full story.

Good luck with the repairs mate.

so are you saying low speed idiocy makes it ok?

honestly there was no point in posting a thread like this but hey...

in most cases if a mate crashed my car they would be paying for it either straight up or something could be worked out.

Either you pay or your mate does simple as that. Hopefully your mate is more carefull in the future.

you do realise that what 3rd party insurance is for is to pay for the damage you do to other cars (in your example the damage his car did to yours). but not the damage you do to your own car.

U werent there...

I wasnt there...

NONE of us were there other than him... lay off the poor bastard for ****s sake and stop being so judgemental... everyone that is.

I agree....you havent and never will have a crash?

My thoughts is it's all a learning curve, and you learnt the easy way with no-one injured or dead.

I lost almost 15k from lending my 33 to an ex gf. who wrote it off going 60 around a corner in the wet. It wasn't fast but road was damp and she wasn't used to the car. I never got a cent from her, never again will someone drive my car with no insurance.

If it's fixable, post up some pics for all of us and maybe we can help with parts, workshops and advice...

hey man u wernt there so shut th **** up.. as ppl has said before u wernt there u dont know what the cercumstances where.

and whos said u have to be driving irrisponsibly causes every car crash out there. like i said before u werent there so u dont know shit to judge.

And yes he can drive hes a good driver. Just bad luck for him then that this happend

and yes the car is gettin fix now the damage was 4k so it was not that bad...

bah.. it was an accident! I don't even think he indicated that anybody was doing anything silly at the time was he?? Nobody has ever had an accident on here? jeez....

good to hear its only $4k.. could be worse. Lesson learned I guess. I'm sure he will have insurance in future too

yeah, everyone get over it already!

accident's happen it's a fact of life, and it's not always because someone is doing something stupid, given the breif explanation of the situation, I would say the abuse Tin-tin is copping is unwarranted, especially from forum moderators ffs!!! He posted this post asking for help, not asking to be abused!

good luck with the repairs

    • Does it make a difference in your turbo having a shorter life if you have a cat converter as it causes that back pressure versus less/no back pressure with a decat? (Not sure if this is accurate) Also slightly different question if you went from a oem cat to a decat or vice versa will it require a tune? I heard if you change the dump pipe onwards it requires a tune?
    • No. Have only gotten as far as contemplating the task of having to put in the required fairly heavy wiring and fusing to run it (along with the big alternator), and preferring not to. But otherwise, it would be nice to have a little extra freedom as to exactly where the compressor is located and free up some space around the exhaust side of the engine.
    • Following from this in a related by not closely-related sense... Because I was buying a bunch of other GKTech stuff, I got some rear subframe collars. The history that leads up to this is: 25+ years ago the car arrived into the country with stock subframe bushes. At some point shortly thereafter I added Whiteline pineapple rings, set up neutral, and it improved the rear end behaviour. Well, it is my vague memory that I was happier with it with them in. Less axle tramp on launches, generally better, etc etc. ~2012 it got a new non-HICAS subframe with new stock bushes. No pineapple rings. I reckon that ever since then I've been dissatisfied with the axle tramp. Recently I've been f**king around a lot with all aspects of the suspension. One contemplation has been to relocate the rear lower control arm front mount points (and do the other things needed to make that work) to improve longitudinal rear grip by getting rid of some of the stupid anti-squat that Nissan ladled into the R32. But.... before doing that I thought I'd put some collars in. And.... The collars are good. The rear sounds a little bit different, but there has been no significant increase in NVH coming up into the body. In terms of rear behaviour - expansion joints on long sweeping elevated freeway ramps that would sometimes cause the rear to jiggle around a bit, no longer seem to do so. It appears that jamming chunks of metal into the gaps in the rubber so they can't move much is a really good thing. And the launch behaviour and general forward traction situation seems to be greatly improved too. It's impossible to be really sure, because the tyres are completely shagged - they are freakishly willing to let go right now. But as an A-B test with the same tyres it certainly seems to grip up a lot better. Highly recommended to anyone who still has stock bushes.
    • Bit off topic maybe but has anyone had a crack at one of those aftermarket electric compressors ? Bit of a search came up with one put out by Speedy Air Spares. Looks interesting and looks as if you'd have to run a big arse alternator. Found this out after the fact as my air con compressor packed it in and soon after my alternator ! !
    • Yes. Needs new ports. Usually just achieved by screwing an adapter onto them. Be aware that any AC compressor that hasn't been used in a long time will very likely have dried out seals and will not hold gas. Oh, and obviously you will require a new receiver-dryer also.
