I am trying to find out wats wrong with my transmission. its an rb20 enging, box, and a brass button clutch

the problem just started last week and it getting worse and worse.

you cant actually feel the problem but you can sure as hell hear it.

you can only hear it when the clutch is out.

mostly when driving but even sometimes in neutral at idle, it sounds almost the same as the noise from a whining diff but lower pitched and it seems to sort of phase in and out like a whoosh whoosh whoosh and it is relative to how fast i am going.

is it my gearbox or clutch? and is it likely to die suddenly or have i got a couple of weeks to fix it?

any help appreciated

probably only a thrust bearing noise. Twenty bucks for a new one but $200 to get it fitted.

Mate, i'll tell you what, same deal happened to me. this is how you determine which is what. If its the thrust, with your clutch only half engaged it'll go away.. if its the gearbox do this, turn all ur music etc etc off... then drive the car, place it in first take off and go to about 40kmph and roll.. push your clutch in, and if the noise is still there its the box, if its gone... its the clutch.

to easy!

if you can DIY it only costs a few bux (maybe 100-200$) to rebuild the box and replace all the bearings etc, takes a weekend to do it, all the right tools.. and a mate to help you aswell!!!

Hope all goes well!
