14.11 @ 102mph. So all the naysayers out there can relax for a bit, I still havent cracked the 13.7 on my current power level, but I'm sure I'll get damn close. Again only 4 runs, some guy decided he didnt like his lane and went for a closer look in the other lane and then the concrete barrier, he's ok... dunno about his car. For the naysayers, I'm sure you will *enjoy* daves (aka. rev210) post... ready to eat that shit that was so called coming from me about running 13's without anything more than a bit of boost?

*snicker*

Rob

dude get off your high horse.

great that you got a PB time.

there are alot of 'lines around with similar mods that run completely different times.

yes the power level helps, but so does the clutch, suspension etc and most of all the driver knowing there car!!!!

But almost everyone told me I needed more HP, from a SAFC or an new ecu, or a bigger turbo and front mount. I distinctly remember adam32 saying that I would need a SAFC. All I've changed is the clutch and tyres. So it goes to show that as dave (rev210) said you CAN run a 13.8 in a r33 with minimal mods. He's spent a lot less than me and he ran a quicker time.

Rob

you said in that other thread: with the current mods

a clutch added REDICULOUS amounts of power to the ground when I put mine in, and as far as I'm concerned is a modification..?? or am I wrong??

well done on your 14.11, but 13.7 is a long way from there

Rob's cars got more potential than mine ,now If I stole his boost controller, his clutch and his tyres oops...did I just say that inner monologue out loud?

Well, his car will do a 13.6 with a nice amount of wheel spin still off the line, as is the norm for the plex I now gather. He was running to much air pressure in his tyres. I dropped mine to 20psi for the 13.8. Did 14.3's with 34psi in them. If I had my best 60ft of 2.1 on that run it would have been a 13.7/13.6 , not an unreasonable assumption.

I think its good to encourage people to get their car going as quick as they can with each level of mod they make before moving to more power as a solution because the reduction in times per $$ spend is better. It's just as good as organising a discount for forum members on performance parts cause ultimately the goal is to go faster for less $$ spent.

I think if we put our heads together we can work out a good starter formula for making a stock skyline faster just like many other car types have a similar step by step process.

dude, dropping the tyre pressure to a certain pressure will of course give you better traction, but a reduction of 0.7...ummm...

we aren't bagging him or shutting him down, it's just that he seems to think that the car has more potential than it does

a change of clutch is a modification, and in my opinion a VERY good one

boosting is a modification as are all of the other ones, including free horsepower mods, they are all mods

he said with current mods bla bla

noone is putting him down because its great that his car, as with all skylines/imports, can do good times and is bettering PB's

it's just that some people seem to have some kind of competition against others to prove some lame point

I know what you mean.

I think Rob was hoping to prove the ordinary R33 skyline power plant doesn't need much to get 13's. At least he is 'trying' to prove that if you have the power he's got in your R33 sorting out the launch will get a 13.7.

This is good news to those hoping to do that sort of time without forking out big cash for front mounts and S-afcs, bigger turbos, blow off valves and HKS stickers. When someone does a 13 without these things they have something to offer their fellow new R33 owners by way of advise.

Agree to disagree about tyre pressure tho. I got a reduction of 0.6 and with less tyre pressure , my tyres are much narrower than his and are of a crapper compound. That was with less boost too (8psi). 0.7 drop even more is there for many people who are not yet in the know.

Rob

i can't remember do u have a dump pipe? fair good wack of hp there.

the new clutch would of helped greatly allowing you get that power to the ground so you started accellerating more than spinning wheels.

Rev has the dump pipe on you and his is heat rapped which helps the air flow in the pipe. more efficent air flow = more hp.

definatly try playing with your tyre pressures next if you haven't already. it surprisingly does help more than u think as the quicker you hookup and get moving, obviously the quicker your time.

hey i was .02 of a sec off a 13sec pass with the same mods as u.

with that mph.. a 13 is possible 13.7? who knows i dont think so personally. What mods have you got?

I'm not sure if you mean me or Rob77?

Rob77; has a zorst, EBC (1bar), HKS pod filter, Diff kit, puck clutch.

Rev210 ;mods as per signature thingo' . Check the Wed night drags thread for my 13.8 run conditions. If I had another MPH at the end of the 1/4 I would have had a nice 13.6 not a problem.

skyzer33 : Dump pipe or not Rob77 has got more power than me and better traction potential (Clutch and tyres) , having been in both cars. I'd say his car is 3 tenths faster than mine on a good day and last night wasn't a 'good day' for my car.

BTW I'm not being a mondays expert and saying it should have done this time or that time, I'm just saying that with some attention to the problems of driving it seems the car will run a 13.7 or better some time soon. Just keep chipping away.

But, if you get bored doing the chip away thing, go get the T88 34D setup and all the fruit:D

Well i agree with most of this. I personally havent seen a lightly modded R33 get those times, but now im happy to hear they can!....maybe everyone else is just a cr*ppy driver :(

Um just one thing Rob your keen running 1 bar with the stock cooler! Ive seen R33 turbos blow with less boost pressure.

Anyways good to hear guys.

Ben

I have a cat back exhaust, still running std dump pipe/front pipe and cat. a blitz dual sbc boost controller (set to 0.8bar). HKS pod filter (green one). cusco front strut brace (adds heaps of HP :(. whiteline diff kit (adds traction not HP). 2500Pound pressure plate clutch with 9 "fingers" (again no HP, but no clutch slip). dunlop 225/55 SP9000 tyres (better traction). I'd say at a rough guess I've got somewhere around 180rwhp. I still dont understand how a clutch can be deemed a HP mod, all it adds is more traction and less clutch slip so quicker take-up. I think rev210's onto something big with the 20psi in the tyres jobbie, I think that made all the difference between his 14.3's and then his 13.8. I'll be buying a small tyre pressure thingy and maybe a portable pump so I can pump the tyres back up.

Ben, the stock cooler isn't the problem running 1bar it's the dreaded 'pottery wheel' (ceramic) that doesn't like 14 odd psi for long. Depending on where you measure the boost the frount mount does not increase the turbo's tollerence if measured at the compressor. The front mount might show a lesser psi drop at the plenum due to efficiency, perhaps thats what you mean.

I think I'd have my ass handed to me by quite a number of the guys on this forum when it comes to a driver skill challenge.

so whats the issue?

The issue seems to be that Rob has a comprehension problem.

The "Naysayers" only told him that a 13.7 was unlikely from the setup he was running. That setup included other things like clutch/suspension and tyres etc not just HP which he seems to have fixated on.He has set about modifying his previous set up to prove us all wrong but has missed the point (he no longer has that setup)

Rev210 has made a fine effort to get the times he has but he has put some development into his car to achieve it.Congratulations Dude!!!!

Rob

As I recall the only "shit" you received was over your attitude not your achievements thus far.

Before you modify your car further please modify your manner on this forum as I for one am growing tired of your continual bleeting/stirring. That is all I have to say on the matter and will not be drawn further.

This used to be a great forum before the influx of stirrers

Going back to the original thread, I was told that I would need more power. I still havent got more power, I've got more traction. All rev210 and I are trying to prove is that you dont need to spend large dollars on front mounts, bigger turbo's or hiflow'd turbo's, safc's or new ecu's to run into the 13's. You guys said I couldnt and rev210's done it. At the end of the day I respect your knowledge chris, you've driven enough skylines to know whats what. At the end of the day all of us have the same common goal, to get as fast a time we can. I'm just trying to show that you can get a fast time given the small amount of mods I've done, same as dave.
