r32 climate control installation?

Hi, I am thinking of purchasing my mate's r32 gtst, and it has the old scholl air con unit, not the newer climate control. What I want to know is, is it possible to install the newer r32 climate control module, as I have gotten used to it in my r33? Has anyone done this before. I know it is pretty pendantic, I just like the control that climate control allows for.

Pedantic???? That's one word for it. Luckily, it is probably not practical to convert. Prob some wires missing from loom, etc.,. If you ever get some of the weird problems that the Climate Control can throw at you,just in order to not have to turn something up, down or off, you'll wonder why you wanted it.

I guess you are right, I have definately found that the climate control modules can throw some pretty wierd things at you.

I have a '89 R32 GTST and my unit looks exactly the same as RowdyR32's '92 R32 GTST.

So my question is what's the difference and when in the model did they change?

The 89 r32 in question has slider air conditioning controls, as in you slide the dial from cold to hot, as apposed to electronic controls where you select the temperature via a digital display, what sort of controls does your r32 have?

yeah.. it might be a "non mspec" thing.. or just a factory option that is 95% optioned on...

I got the old sliders too.. I know they work, but hell, I like the digital thingo, makes you feel like you have a fancier car (pedantic I know).

I picked up the control unit and the loom for $100 to do the conversion.. I have had a quick look, and it looks like the slider controls actually have the old-style cable mechanism which opens up the various flaps near the firewall. This makes it tricky, as I think the newer method works with actuators (like the R33) to open the vents, etc. So I'll probably need the actuators to actually do it. Looking more and more expensive.

I can't find out too much information either on the conversion, other than for the S13, which I assume it could be similar to.

I really have to pull the whole dash apart to find out what sort of task it is.. not high on my list of priorities right now.

Yeah i have the electronic display / buttons, mine's a M-Spec but, i thought ALL R32's had it but you learn something everyday...

I have had both M spec and NON m spec 1989 R32's and they have ALL had climate control.

I would assume the old sliders were few and far between.

Yes, they did'nt change at any particular time, they were an option. I have a handbook that seems to say that. Same with radios/ Tape players, etc.

Hmmm... well guess i'm just thankful i have the Climate Control, however, if they were an option i can't see it being a massive task to fit on after the fact. After all the factory had to do it and it'd be woefully ineffiecent too make really to do (altho if it's ALL behind the dash that's much easier with a partially assembled car).
