gtr questions>?

Recommended Posts

hi,

i recently got a r32 gtr and i dont know if i have a problem or not.

when i take off slowly it shudders a bit like something is slipping.. but if i get the revs up a bit higher and take off it doesnt slip at all.

i have been told that it could have a tripple plate clutch?

also the gear box is very loud, in 1st 2nd and 3rd it make a prety loud winding noise. could it be after market or is it normally like that?

one more thing... when i turn 90 degree corners the inside wheel skips, does tnat mean it has a locked diff also? or is that normal

From what youve said it sounds like theres a bit of work been done to it, but dont want to jump to conclusions.

Does the clutch make a metallic ringing noise when you push the clutch pedal in? Also if it was a gearbox bearing, you would assume the gearbox would whine in all gears. Judging from everything else youve said, I wouldnt be suprised if it had straight cut and/or dogged 1st 2nd and 3rd gears.

As Morgs said, what else is done to the car?

there is only an exhaust from turbos back and slightly bigger frount mount and lowered.

it doesnt whine in other gears, well i cant hear it so it might, but just not as loud.

when the clutch is out and im in neautral the gear box/clutch makes like a loudish grinding type noise (not THAT loud), it goes away when the clutch is in, and when driving it makes a whine noise..

the clutch is also close to an on/off clutch.. there isnt much to ride if you get me. and shudders when slowely taking off, and inside wheels skip when turning

If its got about 2 - 5 cms from the floor before enguaging its a aftermarket clutch. Its either ON or OFF no riding it :) - other wise bunny hop time!

The throwout bearing makes a wineing noise with the clutch out on idle ?

If you'r diff makes a clicking/ticking sound when you turn - going slow then its a locker diff.

well i would say its an aftermarket clutch then.

i cant hear any ticking noise, just the tyre skidding.

i just dont want anything to be wrong with the gear box.. it drives hard and doesnt perform any less then it should, just has some concerning noises

Guest Mashrock

its a multiplate clutch for sure which makes the ringing noise when you push the clutch in. nothing to worry about really..

tho it could be worn?? maybe you'll have to pull gearbox off to find that one out

the skipping wheel for tight turns would be a tight lsd i gather??

the other gear box noises i have not a clue about.. get them check out by someone who knows what they are on about.

Either way, if you havent already, you should be taking the car to a reputable workshop for a thorough checkover to make sure there is nothing going on that you should be aware of.

    • I am currently going this route. I am curious how much horse power you put behind the cut bell housing? Collins was telling me I am going to crack it and bluh bluh bluh. Because I didn’t buy the custom fly wheel from him. I am looking for somewhere around like 500 hp
    • Forgot to mention that these are the before pics when I first got it!
    • Thanks @PranK for the updated member status, much appreciated! 👍🏼 Now, about those pics… Unfortunately I could only find ones that I took in the dark. I was soon to discover that underneath it wasn’t in the best shape, but it was mine and that’s all I cared about at the time 😆
    • Oh, and only having done this task yesterday, I've now driven the car ~60km since, and while it is hard to avoid placebo effect and confirmation bias, I reckon that some annoyances I had with the way the car has been behaving have improved. Which....kinda makes sense, I guess. If the bushes were really stiff and resisting rotation, they would have been contributing to the effective wheel rate. And if it was more so on one side (which it was, because one side was worse than the other) then.... you might imagine that the additional rate would be asymmetric, and potentially even different between compression and rebound. And so... the car has been twitchy at higher speeds - like freeway on ramps. It really shouldn't be. The wheel alignment is good and there are no (other) known problems elsewhere in the suspension. But at 90-100 on a long sweeping ramp, tiny steering wheel motions would make it feel like it wanted to rear steer. Quite nervous. At lower speeds it would heave about in a manner that it didn't use to. Didn't want to put power down, etc etc. Now...seems to behave better. Am going to have to concentrate on the various corners where it has exhibited weirdness, on the rare occasions when I can get a decent run at them without Methanial getting in the way in his D-Max/Ranger/LDV Van/etc.
