Actually it depends what year the skyline was built - i.e. early model (89-90) were cable driven later model (91-92) were electronic.

Well, my r32 gtst is a late 1993, and the speedo is definately cable driven.

how can you tell whether they are cable or electric?

There's a cable sticking out of the back of the gearbox if it's cable, or a sender unit with a few wires coming out of it if it's electric

I also have a 93 build r32 with cable thats been spitting them out like a mother****er lately. 2 rooted cables in 2 weeks so i changed the cluster.
