Hi guys

(sorry guys about the spil. and grammer)

I am a new member in this grat forum, I am Moh'd from Kingdom of Bahrain, I own a 1989 NISSAN 200SX (Euro. ver) with CA18DET.

I want to swap my engine to RB20DET , I love the drag race so I need the car for streetrace and dragrace.

so

My car is S13 it is whight 1160kg (2777lb) with driver and with the CA18 engine and my goal is high 11's. so I do some cal. and found that I need to 400 HP (298 Kw) that mean with 15% for the tranny lose it will be = 340 whp (254 wKw) to get my goal 11's.

so my Quz is

can I do this number of HP in the RB20DET ? what I need to do it ? how many of you do this amout of HP in his RB20DET?

thanks guys for your help

(I will try to put some pic for my S13 soon)

I think its been said here before that RB S13's are no lighter than R32's and have cooling issues . If you can get one to replace the S13 , Nissan's done most of the work for you in a better handling and braking package .

I'd put my money into an R32 if it was me .

350rwhp and low 11s is a very easy task with an SR and not that much harder with the CA18 but the SR parts are easyer to get so I'd go SR power.

If you want 350rwhp and an RB a near stock RB26 would do your job for less than the cost of buying and building an RB20.Shop around for prices and work out whats the go for you.

if I can do a 350whp in SR so that mean I can do it in RB20 coz as I know that the RB20 and SR20 have same HP and displacment

I can't go with RB26DETT coz it is so expensive and there is not alot of spare parts or aftermarket parts for it here in Bahrain

here in Bahrain I can get a RB20DET for very good price and better price than the SR20DET and I can found a racing parts for the RB20DET easy than the SR20 and with better price.

so can I get 350WHP with out open the engine ( I mean no cams, no piston, no con. rod)

How many HP can the stock RB20 injector support ?

thanks

the SR is more expensive to buy, but in long run a RB might be more expensive.

the engine is going to do some internal mod for durability.

Then u are talking 4 of everything VS 6 of them!

BTW SR is lighter and has more torque then RB20 which makes it a better engine for street and handling.

If u REALLY want a RB20, try here

OK, let's start with some common terminology;

rwhp = rear wheel horsepower (using a roller style dyno)

rwkw = rear wheel killowatts (using a roller style dyno)

bhp = brake horsepower (at the engine)

kw = killowatts (at the engine)

rhhp = rear hub horsepower (using a dyno that attaches to the rear hubs)

4whp = four wheel horsepower (using a roller style dyno)

4hhp = four hub horsepower (using a dyno that attaches to the 4 hubs)

It has been my experience that Skylines don't loose a fixed percentage between the engine and the rollers. Whether the car has 200 rwkw or 500 rwkw, the losses end up between 55 kw (small gearbox, diff etc) and 75 kw (large gearbox, diff etc). GTR's and Stageas loose around 15 kw more due to 4wd.

So if you want 350 rwhp (260 rwkw) you will need ~430 bhp (320 kw). I have never seen an RB20 with standard cams make anywhere near that. Ours makes 225 rwkw (360 bhp) with GTR cams, adj camshaft pulleys, split dump, ball bearing hi flow RB25 turbo, POD filter, heat shield, ambient air feed, Power FC with Boost Control Kit, split dump/engine pipe combo, no cat, 3.25" exhaust.

The standard injectors are 270 cc, so good for around 270 bhp, again no where near enough.

Moving onto internals, to make over 400 bhp I have found forged internals (pistons and rods) are necessary as you have to increase the rpm to get a decent (wide) power band. Otherwise a close ratio gearbox will be necessary.

So I suggest you add up all the costs and then make a decision, most people here find once your RB20 target exceeds 240 rwkw it is far cheaper to go RB25 or RB26 or RB30. As Steve-SST suggested, the RB26 is somewhat more attractive.

As Maxx suggested, take a look at the RB20 power comparison thread, it has most of the info you need. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...&highlight=RB20

Hope that is of some help:cheers:
