As none of you may know, my car was stolen, and removed of its $3000 stereo, with all the locks and handles smashed up, so i went to fetch it, it started up ok (better than it used to actually (eek))

but i went to drive off, and wow clutch didn't work. so here is my story.

THe gearbox itself feels like its selecting gears, you can hear it as normal clicking etc around inside the box, just like it always has.

the clutch pedal still feels just as heavy as always, so its sttill pushing a clutch, the clutch pedal also felt smooth.

when you let the clutch out, absolutely nothing happens, the revs the engine is doing dont make ANY change, and it makes no difference what gear you are in.

If you sit and try for a minute or so, you can smell that burnt clutch smell afterwards.

So a mechanic had one fiddle and said, clutch is burnt out - so i said, are you sure, he says yes - so i have a new clutch coming to put into the car.

But my concern is, that the car was found only 1km from where i had it locked up, and the tyres show no signs of prolonged burnouts etc, and there isn't mud all over the car from any paddock action. Before the car was taken my clutch was jsut fine and never slipped.

So my question is - Can this just be the clutch, how can they burn out a clutch so completely in such a small space of time. Someone suggested maybe its the throwout bearing - this comes in my new clutch kit - but i have no idea how they work....

I'm just concerned as i had like $0 before this all happened, and now i've had to spend $1200 just to get my car back, minus $3000 worth of hard earned audio gear.

So can a clutch die like this, so suddenly, or do i have a fecked gearbox on my hands:'(

Could someone please explain the possibilities and help to put my mind at ease - its been a very stressful time:(

sorry to hear about your car getting stolen and your stereo swiped, thats bad luck. (While on this topic its a great reminder to all you other skyline owners - dont leave your car anywhere! )

With your car only being 1 km away from where you had parked it.....my guess is the thief didn't have a fkn clue how to drive manual and burned the living shit outta the clutch until it just wouldnt go anymore. The gearbox is pretty tough - it would have to be really abused (high revs and pushing into gear without clutch HEAPS of times) before the gearbox packs it in. I could be wrong but lets hope its just the clutch...otherwise you will be up for another 1K or so.

Good luck with it
