how do i get the Flutter sound on my s2 gtst?

i was at a wrecker and this guy came down changing gears letting off this cool flutter sound into the atmosphere

i asked the guy how he did it but he did go into much detail i guess he want to keep it a secert

he briefly said that he blocked off the BOV and he asked if i had a aftermarket air filter, he said thats all i needed to get that sound

i really wanted the flutter sound because it sounded MAD

i want to know if anyone knew how to do this?

Remove the stock BOV - get an empty can of beer and cut a gasket out of the can the shape of the BOV, but DONT cut a whole in the gasket for the air to flow through and then mount the gasket back onto the BOV. You get no blow-by to the BOV so the "flutter" you hear is the waste-gate venting itself.

Shit i flutter ONLY when i run 17 pounds of boost and drive hard, on 10 pounds i couldnt make it flutter if i tried. This is without modifing the BOV as it is still stock.

Sh!t hmmmmmm ummmmm this might be because at 10 psi the stock BOV is big enough flow out that much air, but at 17 psi there is much more air and while the stock BOV is venting there is still excess air which goes back out through your compressor... My advice... get a high flowing BOV or two!!

Wait i thought it was just a better type of BOV that produced this flutter sound, I was told that the BOV's that make this sound are alot better then the standard types, But is the only difference the sound it makes?

THE ACTUAL BOV DOESNT MAKE THAT FLUTTERING SOUND... gezzzzz dammit ppl..... That sound is when air returns back through your intercooler piping & back out through your turbo compressor. This flutter sound is the turbo 'chopping' up the air trying to push it through the piping but the air is returning so it chops up the air & creates that 'flutter' noise. This will occur when there is no BOV, or a too tight of a BOV & you slam the throttle shut after boosting. Oww & it’s not good for your turbo because it can slow your turbo down rapidly and create excess strain & wear, so don’t be trendwhores & forget the flutter.

I suggest those about to reply to this thread should read this first, it is exactly the same thread, but a lot more debate had gone on.

Yeah my next plan would be to fit twin gt-r bov's (stock ones, plumb back) USed to have a HKS SSQV, and ive whinged many times about the stalling, so got rid of it.

    • Awesome mate, sounds like an awesome car! My 33 has the 400R/Nismo front and rear bumpers and side skirts. They're in terrible condition though so I either need to fix them up or toss them and get new, standard bumpers and skirts. I wish the Nismo stuff was FRP not fibreglass as they're always one nudge away from complete destruction!
    • Thanks mate 👍 The car was brought into the UK by a USAF mechanic until he was stationed back to the US, one owner later I bought her back in 2009. Luckily the only corrosion was on the sill seams, so once taken back to metal and treated and sealed all ok, I then undersealed the car myself and check yearly and treat any corrosion which to be honest is zero. She's garaged most of the time and hardly ever driven in the rain, but as you say most are rotten unfortunately, I was lucky in finding her as she was and still is in excellent condition.
    • Stunning car.  Looks amazing!  You're in the UK?  How the hell do you stop your car rotting away beneath you?  British cars are the WORST I've ever seen in regards to rust.  Some of the cars SR Autobody have done are borderbeyond saving.
    • not a date code? or a foundry code?
    • I have up to date pics of the engine build and turbo conversion over on my instagram @skpro_jects if you want to take a deeper look.   Basically the exhaust manifold is straight bolt on and the ports match (they arent any smaller than a 25 or 26 head).    the intake ports are different shape so the 20/25det manifold will bolt up but wont match properly or seal. You will need to port match using the 25det gasket as a stencil. Personally i ran the entire stock 20neo intake setup and have configured the swirl valves and torque valve to work based on my custom parameters to help with off boost response and spool. But this is using a standalone aem v2 ecu. The stock 20det ecu wont be able to control them.
