123456
haha dude u got too much time on your hands. Umm also duno if u had one but theres a gasket you can just peel off the bottom of the flange that makes tracing alot easier Edited January 24, 2007 by 123456 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/60655-flutter-sound-as-bov/page/15/#findComment-2849792 Share on other sites
r32matt
haha, shows how busy I am at work Your turbo will be fine, there will be no damage to the shaft or bearings. The amount of pressure going back through the turbo is nothing. There is no proof that it wont die becasue there is no proof that it does damage, lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/60655-flutter-sound-as-bov/page/15/#findComment-2849812 Share on other sites
Alien
i remember i blocked off the stock bov with a screw and it was running around 6psi (half of 12 that the boost controler was set to!!!!) maybe there was a leak of pressure? Chris_R33GTSt
The sound is already starting to piss me off (As well as having to fight off teh chicks) so I'm taking out the home made gasket and am going back to the stock plumb back. It was fun while it lasted but I cannot afford to screw my turbo or have too many chicks chasing me cause i got a gf and I'm saving up to do a bit upgrade and i don't want to screw around fixing shit. joe blo
will it still flutter if the afm is in the standard position? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/60655-flutter-sound-as-bov/page/15/#findComment-2851705 Share on other sites
levir33
i have a turbonetics raptor bov on my s1 gtst and it makes the flutter noise sounds great and as of yet have not had any problems with the turbo or engine. bov not plumbed back tho - just vents to atmosphere. i think this bov uses a different type of plunger to most conventional bov's, and gives it a cool unique sound Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/60655-flutter-sound-as-bov/page/15/#findComment-2856552 Share on other sites

Taso84
will it still flutter if the afm is in the standard position? I think to get a flutter comparable to the VL-t flutter, u need to relocate the afm to the cooler piping, so ive heard Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/60655-flutter-sound-as-bov/page/15/#findComment-2856563 Share on other sites
R31Nismoid
relocating the AFM wont get that on its own you need to change the intake pipe aswell. Taso84
whats the technical explanation for how relocating the afm increases flutter noise? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/60655-flutter-sound-as-bov/page/15/#findComment-2859680 Share on other sites

/2on
yeah i dont understand how relocating the afm will change the sound of compressor surge in any way can someone explain it Edited January 29, 2007 by /2on Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/60655-flutter-sound-as-bov/page/15/#findComment-2861878 Share on other sites
Rolls
Its because it lets you replace the intake with a metal pipe, metal makes the noise louder and more high pitched. R33silverS2
I was under the impression that the dose sound came from the front mount intercooler when the bov was blocked... or does the sound just flutter out of the pod filter? Josh_TypeX
My blow off valve was blocked when i bought the car and hadn't worried about doing anything about it; until this morning. I decided to unblock it to see the difference... and i'm glad i did. The car drives so much smoother now! I had no idea that it would make such a large difference. In my opinion the issue isn't whether or not it will damage your turbo... but the loss of drivability. Plus the flutter gets annoying after a while... its loud even when driving off-boost below 3000rpm. Smooth32
by doing that u are forcing all the air back through the turbo as it has nowhere to go this is called compressor surge and that is why the stock vehicle has a BOV it is bad the fluttering is the sound of air being chopped by a turbo that is slowing down. at least thats what i read my 32 has the flutter sound i installed a huge turbosmart supersonic bov when on low boost it flutters on high boost its like an air compressor exploding its great. got sounds for all occasions lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/60655-flutter-sound-as-bov/page/15/#findComment-2875104 Share on other sites
