jsut installed boost guage

Hiya, I just installed my autometer boost guage, was about to install my turbosmart bleed valuve but I noticed that I'm alreayd hitting 10-11 psi in 4th at about 5000rpm now I thought r33 stock was like 7 psi from what I know my car is pretty much stock just had apexi dunk exhaust and K&N pod filter. is this normal.

like 1-2 are only boosting at like 7psi but soon as I hit 4000+ in 3rd or 4th its str8 up to 10-11 psi

could I have installed guage wrong or is this normal?

When you fit a larger exhaust the boost is increased by itself.

whats your std guage readin?

it does sound a little high for only exhaust and filter. these will increase boost slightly as it allows the engine to breath easier do a search, the basic mods on R33s are fairly well documented. maybe this is what boost is achieved by doin the exhaust and filter

standard is reading alittle over the half way mark (3.5) so would be about 4 I guess

4 on the std guage equates to 11.16psi (using a converter thing ive got on the computer )

would make sense seeing as last time i went to the dyno the guy said it was running at 10psi which was a little weird considering at the time i had no mods other than the cat back thats on it.

my car runs 7psi up to 5000rpm then over that it hits 10psi. I have a remapped std computer by selection, and I think its this that has changed it. Pull out your ecu and look for stickers on back side etc, as it could have been done in jap.

nark - put boost gauge on a stock r32 the other day and got 10psi too.. maybe 32's run 10psi stock?

maybe it does dAVE still waiting for my cupholder to come in... they were sold out when i went in on friday which pissed me off cause i wanted to have it in on the weekend.

will install it this week and have a look... the one the car has in the cluster doesnt work at all... maybe there was an aftermarket one installed originally and they took it out when they sold it??

either way its running pretty well

This is the standard setup for a stock R33. There is a "flutter" valve that is commanded open by the ECU when you get to 4500-5000 rpm. This bleeds air from the wastegate control line. Less pressure in the line => wastgate not open as much => more boost.

just put the bleed valve (Get a EBC if you can afford it instead) and u will get your 10psi all the way from 3000rpm instead of just past 5000rpm. Just make sure you bypass the stock boost controller solenoid with the bleed.
