Hey guys, I will be holidaying over there later this month and was just wondering what the availability of Optimax or similar was like in the country areas of Vic, NSW and QLD. It's not even available here in Tas. Am looking forward to getting over there and trying it out, but once there I want to keep using it for the duration of my trip. Thanks for any info.

well i recently got back from driving to melb to qld, through inland country NSW (newell hwy) and all of that.

i was driving the old box which runs regular, so can't say I was checking every stop, but most of the larger ones along the way had Premium of some type (maybe not optimax, but premium 96RON).

You may find it hard to find Shell servo's the whole way, but if you pace it properly you could probably get away with just Shell. Through NSW at least, it may be 100km between fuel stops.

If you go along the Hume, or more towards the coast, you should have even less problems. Most of the big roadhouse stops have had Optimax for many years now.

BP Ultimate is better :)

true that !!!

or maybe calex check out this from another forum

I was talking to my engineer friends from the Caltex refinery at Kurnell last night. They said that Caltex Vortex 98 is actually about 101 octane at the pumps and will stay that way for about 6 months. Apparently they are having trouble blending it so they are erring on the high side on the octane rating. Also told that the Kurnell refinery makes BP Ultimate for the east coast.

My car isn't a rotten egg :)

A lemon maybe, but no rotten egg.

For some reason my car won't run on Ultimate, so I've always put Optimax in it and when I've desperately had to, run Ultimate when theres no Optimax.

Com'n now Erin, why do you think every one tries to pass you on cruises???

:)

I usually run Optimax on the Sunny Coast, but there have been more than a few times that Shell has run out of it coastwide, so I have resorted to Ultimate. I haven't really tested it thoroughly, but I'm sure the Optimax seems to last longer...
