it has been discussed many times on the forums, but is rarely done because there was a factory turbocharged option. most people just buy the turbocharged car saving time, money, hassle, and tuning issues

BUT... a supercharged skyline would be a very nice machine and is definately possible to do

Supercharging something like an R32 GT-R is sacrilege.

Maybe you should go out for a ride in one and see how it performs even on stock turbo's and boost before you think about throwing on a charger.

It might sound stupid but ive just gotta know..

I've seen photos of an RB26DETT with a supercharger. The supercharger took care of the lag issue (as you know these puppies don't suffer from lag) in the low end of the RPM range, but cut out when boost came on with the turbos.

Don't ask me what the power figures were as I never found that info out, but it looks and sounds like a nice concept.

supercharge a N/A RB26 or RB30/26 combo...

I've seen the pic of the supercharged & turbocharged RB26, but thought it was more aof a stunt - never heard anything about it running...

apparently the real issue is the fact that a S/C will run out of puff at high RPM

hence the reason they are mainly used on V8s (they dont rev very high)

on a skyline it would be great off the line

but once the revs get up there it will be out of its effiency range.

dude, V8 REV HARD if they are built and balance right, my old 302 windsor reved to 9000rpm!!! swwweeeeetttt sound......

As for superchargers runnign out of puff, what about the drag cars? I know these are 6/71's+ but they work a treat! The biggest dilemma in 'twin charging' is the crossover point f supercharger and turbo charger... the best example is the nissan superturbo march.

the 25/30 shown in the pic above is NOT going to be twincharged, it is simply an SC-14 mounted on a 25/30 combo. i have my doubts about it, but nizmodore is going to find the limits of the little SC-14 on that engine i have no doubt.

i am currently gathering parts to build a twincharge system on my RB30 with an SC-14 and a giant turbo. don't worry about switching between the two compressors or anything, just set it up as a simple blow-through system. here the turbocharger feeds straight into the blower, which is primarily there to increase "off-boost" response (not that there is such a thing with this setup) and spool the turbo up very early. this means you can run a BIG exhuast housing and have a huge stonking top end power figure with solid midrange and low-end torque.

say the blower makes 4psi (as it does at the moment for me) right off idle, you will get massive exhaust gas flow at very low rpm. turbo spools early, and you then simply add the two pressures to get your final boost level. 4psi +10psi = 15psi (the blower gets more efficient as it's intake pressure gets above atmospheric) into the manifold and viola, easy twincharge setup.

fitting it all in and stopping belt slips are the two main challenges. charge cooling is another, but i'm just going to run an intercooler and an aftercooler. water/air and air/air respectively.
