my skyline has developed a missfire/hesitation from 4-5500rpm ..

mods are: 3inch, 10psi, Pod + CAI

i've done my research with this problem i.e spark plugs, running NGK coppers BKR6e 0.8 gap, which i replaced monday - problem still exists.

tried backing off boost to 8psi, taped Coil Packs - problem gone for a day even put boost back to 10psi - no problem. Decided to araldite them, put them back in and problem is back !! Even did night test with cover off - couldn't see sparks.

before i go out and buy splitfires, should i need to gap the plugs down to 0.7 ? but then i've read less spark = less power.

on the other hand .. could it be missfiring due to rich mixtures in which case an SAFC would solve the problem ?

i'd appreciate anyone comments.

Tanks :)

absolutely nothing wrong with 0.7mm gap, although it is suited more to higher boost. 0.8mm is generally recommended, but after my last tune i was told to close them down to 0.7 and it cured a little miss (even tho the plugs are due for replacement!) I wouldnt think a set of splitfires will help. Im still using my original 1993 coil packs (some cracks siliconed) with no problems even running decent boost. Sounds like the old factory ECU coming into play to me. With the hesitation being the timing pulled out. The boost cut could still be in effect even tho you backed off boost due to a spike, espcially if your using a simple bleeder. I had these problems back in the day of the same mods you have.

............................................SAFC................................

...BTW, had the exact problem you have and racked my brain thinking it's the plugs gap, coils, air flow meter etc. But no it was the standard ECU running rich as when boosted. So an SAFC sounds good. No hesitation just all power right through. Oh and a decent 29 rwkw gain.

I'm keen to hear Sydney Kids comments on the Jaycar Fuel Adjuster hes just installed ..

On the coil packs .. i just couldn't get my head around the fact that i taped the coils, and it fixed the problem for one day !! ducked up !

So do you still have factory Coil Packs then ?

BTW Thanks for your input

    • I would not be surprised if you are the only person on earth that has the interest/desire to do that lol.  The Haltech base map is a really good starting point, the car will fire easily and drive very well, even on mild boost levels. To me, following your advice sounds like some sort of ancient Chinese water torcher lol (this is not an insult Josh, never change <3)
    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new
