The Road to 200rwKw (R32)

Recommended Posts

G'day, I am interested to get the groups opinion on the best strategy for getting 200 rear wheel kilowatts out of an R32.

I use the car as a daily driver, so a nice fat torque range is highly desireable. Ideally i would like to see the power generated with the smallest amout of boost possible, focussing on keeping everything flowing as freely and cooly as possible rather than just getting a massive turbo and running like 20psi through a shitty small intercooler. A massive front mount intercooler is going to be my first step after the usual exhaust and intake mods.

Also, what sort of performance would 200rwKw provide? What sort of 1/4 mile and 0-100 times would be expected?

Cheers!

Start with a big front mount, and a full 3'' exhaust and a bigger fuel pump. if you are concerned about reliability i would get a HKS 2530 turbo or similar will easily produce that power at low boost whereas VG30 will need more boost and be unreliable.

People have different opinions on the injectors some saying that they will get 220rwkw with only more pressure but im doubtful, you will probably need something bigger. Then you will just need a remap of the computer.

If you up the car properly i would be possible to run mid-low 13's but many people have trouble with traction.

-Bigger Fuel Pump

-Large FMIC

-Aftermarket Turbo/Highflowed VG30 or RB25 Turb

-High Impedance Bigger Injectors

-Filter and Enclosure

-ECU Tuned

-AVC-R and up the boost or just use a bleed valve to run a little more boost... say 14 to 16psi

-Full exhaust

-Aftermarket AFM

Should do the trick...

may want to also upgrade the brakes....

I'd suggest a GT2530/GT2540 and a decent front mount cooler. You'll also need a big fuel pump and a fuel regulator as you'll be pushing those injectors. Bit of dyno tuning and you should see up to 220rwkw.

That will be the most friendly sort of setup, you could even play with the plenum and adapt a forward facing throttle body to remove the crossover pipe. Don't mess with a turbo any smaller, if you wanted something bigger (turbo), you'll notice it is alot less suited to what you want.

Performance depends alot on your ability as a driver to put it down, and your rear end setup; tyres suspension and so forth. You'd be looking to run low 13s with that sort of power, perhaps even sneak into the 12s.

Do what i did... Simple

T3/4

550cc HKS injectors

Bosch 700HP fuel pump

7/16" fuel lines

Nissan Patrol fuel filter

Pod air filter

Nizmo 300zx AFM

S-AFC

Mines ECU

Twin plate clutch w/nizmo preasure plate

Mines cams

Head work to the value of $2500

Tomei valve train

Tomei valve springs

700x360x77mm FMIC

Custom plenium

R32 GTR throttle body

HKS adj Cam gears

Upgraded brakes (cause u need to stop)

Thats about it... but you need a good 12-15 grand, I dont remember how much i have spent... But im gonna run a high 12 second quarter hopefully... My 0-100 is a high 4 seconds... I have cranked out 247rwkw's on the dyno the other day... But twisted the clutch... So im now getting the twin plate done ATM....

I want to hit the 300rwkw mark... I have all the parts in my garage for the next step... I bought a Tomei 2.4litre stroker kit and have all the bits ready... I have bought a spare NICS red block and am starting to build it up from there... So then ill be getting a large Trust or HKS turbo to feed this new monster and will be devestating all at next years jamboree.... (Fingers Crossed)

fark! is this on you r31? u should see 300+rwkw with all that stuff on.

I went to Asian auto spare and stole a throttle body off an RB26dett that allready had a custom plenium (stole = found it before u did and i payed for it)... Its not a standard part... Sorry i should have explained it better....

And yes its in the R31...

And yes we expect some big power once we sort of the ECU... As we have had lots of trouble with the Mines ECU... Cause Chip Torque cant work on the other mods i have done... So we are thinking about either a Wolf 3D (min), a standard ECU chiped to the max (probably what we will do, mixed with some Apexi help in the way of a S-AFC) or Microtec (if i win the lotto soon)....

But yes i should look at well and truelly over the 300rwkw's mark... However i am running the car at 12psi max now as i want to achieve the power on minimal boost and dont want a time bomb motor... Understand???

It all depends on what you want to do.

I personally would go for a small turbo that could run a lot of boost (say 1.2 bar) and develop full boost at less than 4000rpm. Most of my driving is on the open road and on the twisties, a big laggy turbo IS A PAIN IN THE ARSE!

Injectors? Er.. I've been meaning to try fitting RB25DET injectors to an RB20DET .. but cant do much until someone lends me a set of them with the fuel rail. Im sure it will actually fit. Has anyone else tried this? 6x370cc's with a bit more fuel pressure and a good fuel pump should do the trick. I think GTR ones are a little on the big side.

SOme form of aftermarket ECU would be a good idea too.

Provided everythin is tuned right, high boost shouldnt be too much of a problem.

    • $170K. I asked one of the guys there as a joke if that price was just for the passenger seat as it was where the price sheet was... he tried really hard to crack a smile 😄 He also mentioned that every single part of the car was inspected and either restored or replaced with a new or as new part, or made from scratch. The interior was incredible, every inch like a new car.
    • Time for a modernisation, throw out the AFM, stock O2s, ECU into the e-waste bin. Rip out the cable throttle, IACV, pedal, etc. into the scrap metal bin. DBW, e-throttle, modern ECU, CANbus wideband, and the thing will drive better than when it left the factory.
    • I agree, don't go trusting those trims. As I said, first step is to put the logger away, and do the basics in diagnosis.   I spend plenty of time with data loggers. I also spend plenty of time teaching "technicians" why they need to stop using their data loggers, and learn real diagnostics.   The amount of data logs I play with would probably blow most people away. I don't just use it to diagnose. I log raw CAN data too, as a nice chunk of my job is reverse engineering what automotive manufacturers are doing.
    • I'm aware, but unless you're actually seeing the voltage the ECU is seeing and you're able to verify the sensors are actually working I find it hard to just trust STFT/LTFT. I will say, logging the ECU comes naturally to me because it's one of the lowest effort methods of diagnosis and I do similar things in my day job all the time. Staring at 20+ charts looking for something that isn't quite right isn't for everyone. NDS1 allows you to log almost everything so that's normally what I do and then sort out the data later.
