Hey Guys,

Going to be putting a system on the GTR..

On my old car I had a straight-through 3" exhaust system, standard 3" hi-flo generic muffler. It was absolutely kick ass, looked nice and simple, sounded great and I loved how understated the muffler looked. It did the job and worked great and cost me a lot less than using a brand name jap muffler. Infact I thought my system sounded better than guys who owned the same car as me and had brand name mufflers.

So can someone please convince me why I have to part with the extra cash? Is this a true example of the law of diminishing returns?

How much better are the brand name mufflers for performance?

Bro its a big dilema! when i first got my Gtr i ended up putting on a 3A racing $300 muffler with the 2 1/2 exhaust that was on the car..

i just ended up putting on a 3 inch system hi flow cat and the car was very drone got to do with the quality of the muffler.. My exhaust man convinced me to put a resonator on the car and not to waste more cash on a better quality muffller..

Happy with the sound of the car and definetly cheaper than a brand name cat back exhaust..

hope im help to you..

Btw have you had your car dynoed in standard trim??

...just to show the other side of the coin, ill give a plus to the jap brand...

Ever since ive had the car, the cat-back has been a HKS super-dragger.

The system has a nice note on WOT, but isnt too noisy on idle and everyday driving. Ive even got an EPA test showing that the noise level is within spec !!

The main thing for me is that it never droned - both before or after i upped the boost and tuned the ECU.

IMO - the Jap guys have put significant research into their systems, so if you can get one, i would go for it. You cna save potential $$$ on retro-fitting other systems.

However, a lot of people here in Austalia (Lambros, sure-flo, etc) also do great custom work which im sure would be equal to (or better !!) than the Jap stuff.....the key word though is custom = $$$

How deep are your pockets ??

The things that I have noticed with the Jap exhausts that you generally won't get with custom built ones is:

1. Some of the mufflers can be pulled apart so you can reline them etc.

2. They are made very light if weight is an issue for you.

3. As Gizmo said they have been designed specifically for your car with a huge amount of testing done so they will generally give great power results.
