When Bros Sude was nicked, they much have had it all staked out.

Our apartment has lockup garages under the building which we keep closed but not locked, but the cars inside were locked and alarmed. The alarm was a Python with the remote start feature.

The alarm had been going off very now and then in the middle of the night previously, which we thought was just wind. We would normally just hit the Disarm/Rearm and go back to sleep.

On the I was out on the balcony watching shady people lurking about in the garden/driveway, I called out to one but they didnt look up or acknowledge me at all, about 3 were visible inside and outside the compound. Bro came out and had a look too, but we thought that nothing bad was going to happen, I asked him if the car was locked, he said yeah it wasn.

When the alarm went off he started to freak, I didnt think much of it since I thought it would be ok since its a Python alarm. But after about 5 mins the alarm stopped and the engine started. Bro came back out to the balcony and told me to call the cops cause he cottoned on that they were here to steal the car. One of the hoods downstairs signalled to the red WRX in next door's driveway and the proceeded to break down the gate (Well, they backed into the gate slowly untill it came off its rail, then 3 punks pulled it outward and bent the supports enough to get the cars out past what was left standing of the gate), and drive away with his baby.

After calling the 5-O I went down to the garage with my 2 largest butchers knives and inspected the immediate area for lingerers (none to be found unfortunatly).

There was what was left of his center grill lying in the carport and that was it.

Appears they poped out the grill and opened the bonnet to get at and disable the alarm/siren. They myst then have jimmied the drivers door (no broken glass) and done something to the ignition. The steering column was ripped out and the key barrel was modified and broken (It wasnt a replacement barrel, but all the pins were broken so it only took a screwdriver to start it, the immobiliser must have been disabled in the 5mins or so that they had access to it.

They must have been stalking the place for a time before and I assume that the times in the week or so previous when the car alarm went off in the middle of the night they were down there checking out the car and the alarm (the pythons have that crap cycling noises, siren, woop woop, beep beep, wee-ooo wee-oo, etc. highly annoying and very distinctive) so they would have known exactly how these alarms were installed and they were very well prepared. They didnt leave any tools behind or in the car.

The insurance company make it an economical write off and auctioned it. The bidding on it was harsh and loud arguments broke out over it I recall, dodgy effnick types scraping for a bargain I bet. Stupid Auction House sold it "as is" and they would let us take anything out of it. The only thing we got back was the e-tag.

Your right you probably will get flamed.

Fire and theft is capped at $5000 in Vic and NSW, so by the time you claim it, pay the excess, loose your no claim and factor in the premium you've lose your NCB and got about $1000 in your hand if that. I think that's the stupidiest thing I've ever heard of.

Next, take me for example. I also own a cefiro and my car ain't insured - doesn't mean I want someone to take it does it? (which is what you're implying) and I can't actually get insurance for a cefiro. If you find me an insurance company that will insure me I'll definately consider it.

For interests sake I got a quote for a modified r32 and the premium was over $5k a year with an excess for theft being just under $3k. If I had an accident my fault with the car written off $7k. Not everyone can get insurance and in a lot of cases it doesn't make sense (unless you're a shareholder of the insurance company).

The thing that annoys me the most is you seem to think it's ok to take someone elses car. "That's what insurance is for". I say we wouldn't need insurance if these ****wits all died out.

I didn't wanna come across sounding like he was asking for it to be stolen, definitely wasn’t implying that, but the fact remains as lwells pointed out as well that in the real world it happens and therefore we factor that risk in by purchasing insurance. My Z32 costs me about $5 a year to insurer and i hate paying but i also sleep well at night because of it.

We seem to forget that just cause we have purchased our vehicles at $20K-$30K price range, these vehicles originally cost $50k-$100K easily (depending on what you drive). These cars are all high power performance vehicles and therefore we have to pay for it.

As for you not being able to find insurance, with out wanting to sound rude, you can get it insured, look around for brokers, or try just cars, torque, young & cool etc, plenty of insurers out there that will cover your vehicle, I’m sure of it.

BTW i hope CEF11E finds his car, its such a low act when someone steals your pride and joy.

Fair enough Archie I know what you're saying - your first post sounded a bit more abrupt and at the time I didn't give it the benefit of the doubt :)

Still, as CEF-11E said it's a calculated risk, and in the end it wasn't worth it for him based on the chance - and unfortunately that's a boat a lot of us are in.

I can't actually get insured - I work for an insurance company and I've spoken to no less than 10 brokers who represent the majority of underwriters and insurers in Australia. It's a combination of myself, my age, my car and my mods that stop me from being a risk they cover. Mostly my fault. Still this thread isn't about the benefits of insurance. There are threads for that and this ain't it.

Either way  for explaining what you meant.

well to any one withought an alarm/insurance at least throw in a clublock, in brisbane my car was parked next to my friends old non turbo auto silvia when we went into the moofies, i have a nice black r32 gtst which is modified, and they took the silvia. what would have u taken? the difference i had a club lock and she didnt

TOTALLY!!! You can't go past a clublock - its a physical barrier to these ****wits and in most cases (above as evidence) your car wont even get touched!

I've personally never seen a ceffy in the flesh but i'll certainly be lookin out for one now - especially a black one

  • 2 weeks later...

I consider mysely very lucky, at 6pm on sunday the police came round and gave me the good news!

my car was recovered.

Minus

Intercooler, BOV, boost guage, boost controller, Infact about 15 items missing all adding up to roughly $3000

Plus there is some minor damage.

but its all repairable.

Nedless to say the car is getting fitted with sattalite tracking, the worlds biggest alarm system and there is now a security camera in my carport. and i am taking the ECU out of the car every single time i am not in it.

they didnt catch the little theives who stole it but they were seen dumping the car and they were about 14-15 years old.

.

When the alarm went off he started to freak, I didnt think much of it since I thought it would be ok since its a Python alarm. .

I dont quite understand this part....

u saw some shady dudes lurking downstairs.....you heard the alarm go off...but u didnt tink much of it since it was a python alarm?

ermm correct me if im wrong but isnt the purpose of the alarm supposed to alert u when ur car is getting nickked...in this case u did hear the alarm, u did see the dudes...but u tot it would be okie becos its a python alarm?

Yeah, the Python was supposed to be the king alarm at the time, black harness, 3 point immobilisation, kill switch, etc. *I* was overly confident that they wouldnt actually disarm it and drive away. My bro was freaking his nut off though, and with good reason eventually.

    • I've been pondering this, I really enjoy the convertible thing, for me, it's like riding a motorbike, without all the issue of riding a motorbike, mainly, my old sore arthritic joints getting beaten up, and, being able to do it in shorts and a T-shirt and not needing a helmet and all the other gear required, especially like wearing jackets and pants in the summer, or needing 6 layers of cloths in the winter, or not having wet weather gear handy when your 100km away from home on the bike when it decides to start raining As for the hard top and its Coupe look, whilst I do lose all that open top feeling that I really enjoy, from my experience with the NB with a detachable hard top, the cabin is a much nicer place to be, the difference in noise for one, a hard top quietens down the interior, alot, with the soft top up or down it's pretty noisy, which, after 5 or so hours, can get tiring But, as you stated, the detachable hard top totally changes the look of the car, in a really good way, and for me, the look of a detachable hard top is so much better than the PRHT which looks more like a after thought with its weird bulbous rear roof line For me, the minimal effort of putting in on, or storing it after removing it, is well worth the time and effort for the look alone And yes, I'm sure the next owner will be grateful for it as well.......
    • I get into huffs with people when I suggest the MX5 looks so much better as a coupe than it does as convertible. Pretty sure I don't prefer the convertible version of anything. Good job on the hardtop! The next buyer will appreciate.
    • IMO wrap does have its uses, but like you said, quality wrap, and professional installation, would probably cost want a quality paint job does, but, the paint, if maintained, is basically for life, and much easier to touch up if required  In other news: it's pissing down here, with thunder, lightning and only some small hail "at this stage", luckily all "my" cars are undercover  I've also been contacted by a guy in Newcastle about the SS, he said he will come down next weekend for a look, we'll see how that transpires I guess 🫰
    • Nah, I'm not an a-hole, ha ha!   I do like the colour match. Some of the carbon fibre wraps are quite freaking horrible. There's one a local company I know uses, and it looks damn good! Also very very expensive per metre to buy! ha ha ha It might be cheaper to respray the roof than use the good CF Wrap, ha ha!
    • Please noooooooo 😭 As for wrap, no thank you mate, I've seen and used "carbon fibre" wrap before, and for these hard tops, they look soooo good when colour matched Like this >>>
