hey guyz got a weird one for ya, when i turn corners usually when i turn the steering more than 45degrees it makes this weird clicking noise but its fairly loud. Its a stock steering wheel. We have taken the coverings of and had a look to see if there is any loose bolts or anything but nothing. Just seeing if anyone has heard this noise before and if there is a way to take of the steering wheel or removing the front cover of the steering wheel without farking up the air bag thanx

i have the exact same noise!!! when i turn it left or right i get a clicking sound like something is broken under the cover... noise is comming from behind the steering wheel..

Silva:

i don't know if this is ya prob, but i had a noise and it was this.......there is a plastic disc type thing that pushes down the contacts of your horn, most likely with heat or over agressive horn slammin or whateva that this has broken, and have bits of plastic floatin around in the cavity....

you have probs beeping the horn??

shy:

as you have already taken your cover offf.......no idea, sorry :P

edit: on second reading i realise you mean the steering column cover, and not the front of the wheel itself, mine is a 93 not equipped with airbag, so i couldn't help ya with getting it off...

silva33 , have u had a accident or anything lately? coz i had a lil bump nothing bad but maybe something broke. im jus scared to fiddle round near dere coz of da airbag, how long has noise been dere?

ONYK: thanks i give it a go...

The noise just appeared.... the only thing i could think of that shook the car was going over tram tracks to quickly... the noise has been there for about 5 weeks but havent had it checked out yet... it sounds like something is snapped in the steering column... if i find out ill let you know!

Assuming you have an airbag steering wheel....

Does it go clink, sounding like metal on metal? does it happen when you go over say traintracks or a very rough surface?

If so, its probably the steering wheel vibration absorber (at least thats what i think it is...

You'll need to pull the airbag cover off your steering wheel (don'nt need to disconnected so don't stress about it going off)... there should be 2 black plastic tabs on the L and R side of the steering wheel, flick them off with a flat head or knife or something.. under there are 2 tamper proof T50 torx screws... you'll need a T50 security torx key to get them off - can get a set at dick smith for $17.... undo them, then the airbag (center part) should fall/pull forward, leave the plug, plugged in down the bottom. Look towards the top of the section that the cover was covering, there should be a bracket, held in by 2 screws, with a rubber weight inbetween, its probably snapped the rubber bits and only 1 side is holding it, either:

a) take it out completly

B) superglue the rubber bits back where they are meant to be and put it back in

c) snap the rubber weight off completly

hope that helps.

Yup thats the problem because I had the same problem. It's a little weight about 2 inches by 2 inches supposedly to reduce vibration but after a while it becomes loose and just starts floating around under the airbag clunking everytime you turn the wheel too far.

I haven't noticed any extra vibration on my wheel since removing this (altho I got UAS to do it because I got another 2nd hand airbag wheel put on at the same time).
