As I said - I thought that may be the case...

The recent increase in the targeting of these vehicles for theft (both professionally and opportunistically) means that for insurers to have any hope of making money, they have to reduce the theft risk of the cars.

The best (but most expensive) way is to Demand Vehicle tracking systems be fitted otherwise no theft cover. Other ways include not providing (overnight) theft cover if it's parked on the street.

Unfortunately it's a sign of the times and the climate of theft that we live in... People just don't take their vehicle security seriously enough.

Well I called Famous and they have clarified their position on this.

That clause basically only refers to parking on the street at your residence.

Parking late at night when you go out to the movies etc, or even if you had to park it overnight at a motel or something is OK, as long as you're not parking it outside your house on the street every night.

I spoke to Robyn and she checked with a manager about this as well to be sure.

no offense dude but dont trust any insurance company. Make sure you get that clause IN WRITING. If they wont do that, get someone to listen on a second line as a witness and document the phone call. hell even tape it. having said that they do look very promising and are great to chat to and seem quite honest (from an insurance co?!?! wtf). and the trick is, when they give u a premium, say "just cars quoted me X will u match it" where X is a value less than what they quoted you :D and they will match it. i had a good chat with robyn she seems like she knows her fair shair which is refreshing from an insurance co to say the least. now all i hope for is some sort of price war between a rival company! it will never happen though hehe

I recently got a great premiun from Famous and I am all ready to sign up. I even have my application form filled out and was planning to fax it tomorrow. However hearing about this 11pm-6am restriction is giving me 2nd thoughts..

Phil, are you saying they wont cover u if u park outside ur own house after 11pm? but anywhere else is covered?

doesnt make sense.......

Pretty much! If you are parking it outside your house on the street, that means you are pretty much guaranteeing that it will be on the street 80% of the time at night, which is bad risk for them, and easy for the thieves.

This isn't the way i understand it at all!!!

Parking your car in a garage/carport or on the street in front of your house is covered in another section of the application form...if they have issues with you parking in front of your house every night then i'm sure the premium/cost of insurance will rise. The 11pm-6am restriction applies to you going out and parking your car anywhere without concerns for its safety....like in the city all night while you go clubbing...thats just an invitation for thieves. They have no issues with you parked in your friends driveway (i do it all the time)...or parking in the street and being a few meters away (harrryyyss)....i usually park in secure parking if i'm out....there are parking stations all over the place...and yeah some of them are pricey but its worth it...don't know how anyone could leave their car unattended and then enjoy the rest of their night with peace of mind...

anyways....thats what i was told when i asked famous about it...

oh yeah...regarding claims...my friends 33 got stolen...it was parked on the street just before 11....famous classic had no worries paying the claim and my friend was quite happy with quickness of it all...
