hi-flow cat

Recommended Posts

Guest GR33DyMANGO

hi,

i just received a phone call from the guy doing the compliance on my car and he said i had the option of upgrading my catayltic converter from the standard 2.5inch one to a high-flow one for an extra $250.

whats the deal? would i get any performance gains with the high-flow cat? i'll get a new exhaust from the cat back soon after.

so does this high-flow cat make any difference or is it just a waste of money?

ta,

justin.

If you have any plans of improving your exhaust system - which most people do - then you should think about the cat. Having said that, $250 is what I paid for mine when I had the rest done so maybe see if he is open to offers and save a few quid, might be worth a try. If he is fitting a high flow instead of the standard, he would be saving on the price of the standard so you may as well save some extra too:)

For two fitty I would say it isn't a true high flow cat. Maybe a "higher" flow cat. Usually it simple has larger flanges on the end.

Still it isn't a bad price, and usually worth getting just realise that it isn't a high flow or racing cat. I would try to get the price down.

If you are doing basic mods for now it will be more than enough, if you are going to go pretty serious with it, it might be better off saving for a proper cat/ full systen at a later stage.

Cheers,

Tim

I had a catback3 inch exhaust system with my car from Japan.

Earlier this week I got the front and dump pipes fitted with a high flow cat.

There has been a substantial power increase from my seat of the pants impression and the workshop said the difference is about 15hp (at wheels or engine dunno)

It sounds a whole lot better too:D

Can hear the turbo whistling now

Hi GR33DyMANGO,

I assumed you're going through Dany Fisher for your compliance work and your Skyline is the silver one that came off the boat on the 12/11/2002 ?? Anyway, I'm going ahead with the upgrade to the high-flow cat ..

Well I was thinking, considering that I've just bought a car that's not exactly friendly to the environment, might as well spend an extra $250 to do my bit to help reduce emission .. :burnout:

Bye

Hey GR33DyMANGO

Was you the guy who took the silver Spec II for a spin last Tuesday around Welshpool from Danny Fisher's place. If so, I saw ya there as I was picking up the red Spec II that had just been finished and registered??

Justin,

It took about 3 weeks all up (but I got Danny to go slow as our first baby arrived at the same) so was busy with him.

I too got the hi-flow cat to go with the exhaust system.

Car was clean coz I got it detailed cost about $200 or so and they did a great job - it didn't look like that when I saw it at the wharf that's for sure.

Once he gets going compliancing only took just over a week but then there is the alarm system, servicing and the licencing which took two days. Did you know Danny is going to offer servicing and maintenance on the cars he complies - we were talking about it when I picked mine up.

One thing to look for are the mods that you don't get told about like mine had a Pivot Quickshift, Blitz BOV, turbo timer none of which were on the auction sheet.

Once jnr gets settled will definately go on a cruise or two or three.

Cheeres, Al

hi al:)

whoa... $200 for a car detail. i wish i could afford that. alot of elbow grease is what im going to use. i cant wait to give it a nice clean.

i didnt know about the servicing and maintainance that danny offers. i'll probably just do most of the servicing myself. one of my uncles is a mechanic... so i should be ok there.

mine has a turbo timer, a kenwood rear speakers, kenwood splits and a different shifter which i didnt know about. it was almost like a little xmas gift:D

pm me when u r able to go for a cruise:)

ciao

justin

My car had some good detailing done to it with its previous owner. All i do now is spend about 1hr/wk washing it inside and out and it makes the whole job so much easier.
