Stonegard - any experiences ??

Hey Guys..

The car being a daily driver on the F3 sees a %^$load of stone chips on the 'ol front bar..

Being a maroon front bar doesnt help the cause..

In the most recent NRMA edition "open road", they had this mob advertised..

For those who cant get to the link (or cant be bothered !!) it seems like some clear cover (Urethane) that protects the front bar, etc from stone chips, bug crap and all that jazz...

Does anyone know how noticable this is on the car (ie if it looks lame, or ok ??) and if it actually works ??

I've used the 3m stonegard if thats the same stuff your talking about. It's fairly durrable but the edges lift usually. Pretty hard to install doesn't like curves too much you have to shrink it .I would only recommend it down low as it looks a bit daggy. Excellent for bottoms of sideskirts and edges.

how much does it cost? I had my front bar resprayed twice in 3 years due to stone chips about 300-400 each time

stonegard is to stop stone chips and therefore rust coming up from the stone chips, i'm pretty sure it doesn't stop the paint from coming off

Well ... if its similar stuff my mum had it done to the front bit of her bonnet when she bought her Explorer.. i think it cost like $500.. for what appeared to be a heavy duty sticker.. I told her she could get the whole bonnet resprayed for that, or probably less every few years when it was needed - but she didn't listen

It wasn't that noticeable at all actually.

Yep i think thats the stuff - and i think the price is similar to a re-spray of the front bar.

Only difference being that if any really big rocks dont hit you, there would be no dents either..

yeah pretty expensive. I put it on peoples cars all the time. They use it inside your doors aswell on the sill part so you dont keep scratching it with your foot when you get in and out. I'm pretty sure it will stop the paint coming off as that's what it's designed for. It's like a thick contact your mum used to put on your school books. I think its pretty noticable unless you have it low, but i'm a fussy bastard.
