How accurate -->stock R32 boost guage?

Hey guys,

how accurate are the standard R32 boost guages? Even after putting my 3 inch dump/front pipe in addition to the full 3 inch exhaust the boost is still only going halfway to +7. Surely with these mods it would have higher boost? How much gain would be had from boosting it to around 12PSI. I know of the issues with the ceramic wheels

but my car runs 1 bar.......and it still doesnt reach the +7 on the stock gauge.

the gauge read the same at 10psi as it did at 14.......

thats how it did on my s13 when i wired in the r32 cluster....

Mate ya boost PSI is governed by your waste gate actuator. Nothing to do with ya zorst.

Putting on an exhaust on a stock turbo skyline will 100% give you a natural rise in boost to around 9-10psi up from the stock 6-7psi.

This is due to the backpressure being decreased massively and allowing everything to flow. Reponse it better too.

weird... ive got a pod and exhaust and mine is still running stock boost but basically sitting on +7.......

good or bad?

your talking about a stock gauge mate.

get an aftermarket one... THEN worry about how much boost its running

im getting 0.9 bar (13.05psi) from a pod and 3" (read with a HKS gauge). i bought the car as it is (Yesterday) so i dont know if ther are any other mods, cant see any from a brief look. is it possible that this boost gain is just from a pod and exhaust???

13psi - possibly you have a different actuator

My R32's boost didn't change at all after pod, then turbo back exhaust and now FMIC. It reads 9.5 PSI on aftermarket guage.

your stock boost gauge may have a leak in the hose... mine had this problem and didnt read properly (not that i used it) but yeah, fsck the stock gauges, get an aftermarket one that reads over 7psi =)

Mine is abit weird...

I fitted a auto meter gauge myself and when driving im hitting 13~14 psi of boost...

mind you all i've got is cat back exhaust > airfilter >bov, nothing else...

....hmm hmm.....

Hasnt played up or anything but yeh....thought the r32gtst run 10psi stock and maybe the odd spike to ~12psi...

7mm/hg is not bar.

1kg/cm2 is what most people run and do not reliase its NOT BAR!

7mm/hg is around 14psi , 10psi would be around 5mm/hg off the top of my head!

Thats funny cause the waste gate actuator on an RB20 is already round 10psi

And of cause response will be better with an exhaust.

My RB20DET went from 9psi to 10.9psi with a full 3" turbo back.

Apart from that my stock boost guage appears to be around the mark.

1bar and the needle only just sits over the top +7 line.

and just what planet are you from? The stock dump may be a restrictive POS but it aint gonna restrict it from getting to wastgate actuator opening pressure.

How does a larger exhaust explain the turbo running more boost than the actuator is rated at?

I don't think any one 'really' knows what the stock RB20DET actuator is rated at do we.

Its all speculation.

Even if we were to test it how would we determine it unless we were to get out hands on a bran spankin new actuator.
