nice..............

any VIP?

im not pushing my luck am i

hahaha, nah mate requests are cool.

I don't think I got any VIP. I spent most of my time manning the DV cam whilst Nick was doing the still photo thing.

I'll have a look for you though, but I'm sure Nick will post some up when he has a chance.

Richard

Awesome pics

Nice TO4Z, Judds had one for about a year now should be a great set up

you're not wrong the HKS 34 GTR with the TO4Z and the HKS V-Cam set-up looked absolutely awesome on the vid they had playing at their stand. Seemed to come onto boost VERY hard. The guy in the vid was four wheel drifting the thing at insane speeds/angles. Both nick and I straight away said "yep, wouldn't mind that set-up on my RB26". In fact the next day at up garage nick went straight to the store worker and said: "got any RB26 TO4Z kits?" hehehe. very nice.

Enough chat, more pics :)

I think I will have to go to TAS 2006...

LW.

Lucien, my advice is do it mate. No matter what else happens on your trip if you get to TAS you will not be dissapointed. I had the time of my life, like I've said many times the Japanese tuning scene in general just blew me away. Granted I got to see things that not many people would have access to, but even just TAS was amazing.

More pics will follow tomorrow. :P

Richard

Yeah, I am definately getting "the itch" to return to Japan. I have been two (or was it three?) times in the past when I was a little younger (pre my interest in cars), and thoroughly enjoyed my time.

So I think at the end of this year, when I have completed my honours year and finally graduated (woo no more uni!) I will treat myself :P

LW.

here's some more of my pics:

HKS TO4Z kit on the shelf at Chiba Naganuma Super Autobacs. I really want a TO4Z kit for the GTR after seeing the HKS R34 in action

here's the Top Secret Fusion R 34 GTR @ Top Secret has the new ARC 'low mount' oil cooler too which is pretty cool

JGTC R34 GTR. sorry for the poor framing of this shot, but I took this photo on the Saturday which was packed so I couldn't get far enough back due to the crowd. need wide angle lense badly :)

enjoy :)

Yeah, you are right there. I think it would be great on a hard tuned 2JZ or (as in the HKS R34) at 2.8 litre RB26. The car they were using it on had all the goodies. HKS 'Step 3" 2.8litre kit (rods, pistons, crank) plus the HKS V-Cam set-up with step 3 cams. So I agree that it would be foolish to expect similar power and response on an otherwise stock RB26. Just means I'll have to do all the other sh1t to mirror their build.... anyone got $50+ thousand?

Ok, more pics:

What I assume was a customer car at Top Secret. Fairly hard tuned for circuit by the look of it

Top Secrets white Supra

Top Secret love RB engines so much that they put this one (with a T88 mind you) into the above pictured Supra!

Not to polute this thread too much, but are there any details on those HKS V-Cams? How do they differ from any other cam (say, for instance, poncams)?

Also wonder how one enters and exits the cars when they are parked so tightly (Top Secret Fusion R 34 GTR pic). Wouldn't want to be the one to wreck the paint

The HKS V-Cam is HKS's own take on variable camshaft lift (duration too?)technology. they weld a little actuator onto the cam cover (inlet side) that as best I can tell is hydraulicly actuated and electronically controlled (if that makes sense).

not sure on where you can get more info.

Richard

HKS V-Cams have been available for yonks... I'm surprised not many people know about it. Its basically VTEC for Nissan engines.

The top 3 GTRs in the N1 class in 2003 all ran V-Cams... they had a review and "how does it work" in RevSpeed... I'll see if I can scan it in for yas.

    • Hey all, I'm sorry if this has been discussed before.  I have a 2008 Japanese import V36 coupe with nav but without Bose. I bought one of those AliExpress android screens, which for the most part works really well.  The only thing that doesn't work is the air con controls (well sort of) and the factory reverse camera.  The AC can be controlled fine but it doesn't report the change in temp and mode to the screen, and the volume knob/other audio controls from the panel don't register on the learning app.  I am pretty certain that the problem is the difference in the head unit between base model (Nav but no Bose) 2007-2009 coupes and anything after 2009.  Mine is the one with the blue connector all the way to the right as seen in this forum post:  The reason I think this is there is one wire left over that doesn't fit anywhere on this head unit, or in the factory screen which also uses different connectors to more recent versions.  I've seen the upgrade from OWC, and have sent the guy a message on eBay but no response yet.  I also don't particularly need the whole kit, just *maybe* an adapter for this one cable.  Did anyone else here have the same problem, or have any insight about what I can do to get this working?  I have been in contact with the seller but all they seem to be able to do is ask for more pictures and videos. Minor edit to add:  I have been researching and found a screen on Aliexpress that actually specifies my head unit in the listing, so these things do exist.  I will contact the seller to see if the wiring adapters are interchangeable with other screens.   Thanks in advance!
