Hello everyone, i have jsut purchased a set of splitfire coils from Nengun in japan, and found out that they not the right ones for me late 95 R33 engine.

Aparently it uses series 2 components.

So therefore was wondering if i coudl maybe just change the wiring loom over to series 1 and still will work fine.

And if so where u recon would be able to get my hands on a loom ?

Thanks Heaps,

;)

Thanks Mr SLY, yer i was thinking it couldn't be done,

I try selling i spose,

If it was a company over here, they would happily replace with the right ones.

Just shits me !!!

Thanks dude

Lada

s2 have an ignitor each of the actual coils.. s1 don't - so yeah, its not something that can be changed as its part of the design of the coil.

Finding a loom will cost you more than it's worth dude..

should be able to sell the old ones though for the price you bought them for.. and get the right ones.

Robz: I'd be interested in buying your splitfire coil packs :)

on a side note: How to can i put new wire into the igniter module plug??... 2 of the 6 wires going into the plug have pulled out and corroded!!... how can i replace these?? can it be done easily???

Robz.. PM me if u wanna sell them and your price...

Cheers

Dave

  • 1 year later...

sorry to bring up this old thread..,

i am about to get splitfire coil packs for the 33 gtst 1995. I have heard that the 1995, uses the same as coil packs as the series 2, can anyone verify this?

also does anyone have a pic of the 'ignitor' that is present on the series 1, if so please post because i cant seem to locate it, if i do have one.

and - does the series 1 and 2 coil packs look different to each other? if so, someone please post a pic of the series 1 & 2 coil packs.

if there isnt a difference, i guess the only way to tell is, whether i have an 'ignitor' or not.

any help will be great!!

cheers

the ignitor sits on top of the engine cover, it's about 6*10cm square black box.

Yeah 95 series have all Series2 running gear in a series 1 body. I have one, and yess you need the coils for a series 2, but look for the ignitor.

thanks for the info bud,

dont seem to see a black box on top of the engine cover.. I took out my coil pack cover though...i guess i must have the coils for the series 2.

so with getting splitfires, i get the series 2 coil packs and put them straight in?

Exactly.

    • I mean yes, if you're starting from scratch on an unknown engine yes you don't need to be doing all kinds of math in the background but if you're doing relatively minor changes like AFM + injectors + boost up with some aftermarket turbos it takes quite a bit of math if you want to do something like maintain OEM fuel + timing tables but compressed and then a bit more load scale up top. I think I've spent too much time working on big engineering nightmares though so I'm a big fan of trying to constrain the scope of whatever work I'm doing as much as possible and trying to get it right before moving on. For example, a local owner just did the usual E85 + single turbo conversion to his R32 GTR and nearly burned his car to the ground doing some spirited driving up the local mountains. Turbine is unshielded and too close to the hood insulation. It's tough to balance "just get the project done" and "seemingly small details can cause massive setbacks I'm not willing to deal with".
    • No idea about Neil's steering wheel, but I have the same behaviour in the Stagea. I doubt it has ever been messed with so might be normal. Indicating to turn right at a roundabout and correcting even a little bit to the left to go around will cancel the indicator. Never considered it an issue other than it being a bit odd.
    • Does anyone know if this is off centered? Looks like it, when I indicate to go right, but turn my steering wheel slightly left it cancels (was always like that even before I started messing around with it) was wondering if anyone else has the same issue?
    • Nothing photo worthy since last update, lots of little plumbing bits for the AAC/Cold start valves, and unfortunately I still need another couple of parts for the brake booster line and the AAC into the plenum. Otherwise it all looks good to start up engine wise, onto checking the electrics/interior
