Man Charged After Pursuit – Clyde Mountain

 24 January 2005

A man has been charged after a police pursuit where road spikes were deployed in the state’s south yesterday afternoon.

About 5pm, a Batemans Bay Highway Patrol car attempted to stop a Hyundai Lantra, which was travelling along a stretch of the Kings Highway at Nelligen. The highway was closed following a serious crash nearby.

Police activated their lights and sirens however the Hyundai failed to stop.

A short time later, road spikes were deployed on the highway at Clyde Mountain which deflated the car’s front and rear tyres. The car stopped and a 61-year-old man was arrested.

Thick fog covered the highway at the time and there were also a large number of other motorists in the area who had been delayed following the nearby crash.

A man from Belconnen in the ACT has been charged with dangerous driving, resist arrest, disobey direction to stop and vehicle defects.

He’ll appear at Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday 7 February.

Pursuit From Hunter Valley To Tamworth

 24 January 2005

A man will face court tomorrow after leading police on a pursuit which began in the Hunter Valley and ended in Tamworth this morning.

About 8am Highway Patrol officers detected the Subaru WRX allegedly speeding on the New England Highway outside Blandford, in the Hunter Valley.

The driver, a 27-year-old Hunter Valley man, did not stop when directed and police followed the vehicle through Willow Tree and Quirindi towards Werris Creek.

Police deployed road spikes on the southern and northern sides of Werris Creek. Three tyres on the Subaru were deflated however the vehicle continued to travel on only rims and one inflated tyre.

The driver continued to drive north towards Currabubula and Tamworth while police moved in front and behind the car to warn other road users as they approached.

Police terminated the pursuit 10km south of Tamworth when two police cars were used to block the road due to concerns about the large number of visitors attending the Tamworth Country Music Festival.

While the police vehicle and the Subaru sustained minor damage nobody was injured.

The driver was arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with drive manner dangerous and licensing offences.

He was refused bail and will face Tamworth Local Court tomorrow.

The question: Which article featured on the news tonight... :)

Its news, what do you expect. Who really wants to see 230 000 dead people... Yet they flogged that to death (pardon the phun!) Its all ratings, ratings pay the bills.

But hey, both instances, its people running, and cops chasing. They need something like a helicopter with a big mofo magnet to just pick the cars up off the road. That'll stop 'em!

my uncle works for channel 7. They are instructed to make sure they get good footage of any crash involving a "modified" or "import" style of car and if its a P plate drive well its pretty much essential. It's a hot topic of debate at the moment and hence thats all we ever see on the news is young people crashing modified cars!!! Its all BS!!

Theres no debate, its just them stereo typing us and raising money for the ****wits to eat more donuts, im sick of it, but hey it doesnt seem to matter that i know over 15 people, names ages and address that do organised crime in my area alone, they would rather harrass jap car owners. But in the end we cantand never will change the fact that not just for us but for everyone the world is a ****ed up place for one reason or another. The human race is one that needs a rebuild.

Soldier on what else can u do.

werd..

at least the police at the top do know what is happening though behind the scenes. They can push the skewed figures to the media to be published, to push their agenda, but at least some must have the sense to know its not all modified cars and "hoons" that are the problem.

It's really a push for easy money. It's not as bad as Victoria, where the economy is bankrupt if they don't bust people for speeding and defects. So that is why they keep having to come up with new measures to get people for these things, even though its becoming fairly obvious the "lived saved" has platueu'd to almost the minimum level.

That is a major reason why I left, the place was just becoming no fun to live anymore when a basic and everyday activity such as driving was made painful beyond reasonable levels.

Hope it never becomes that bad up here..
