Aftermarket ECU + Laptop?

hey guys

Mate of mine just ordered a arftermarket ECU - not sure what type but cost him almost 2 grand (ordered it through autobahn - dumbass )

Anyway most of the after market ECU's can be tuned VIA laptop + software correct? And can also log data whilst driving?

Any info/links/manuals etc on doing this would be great

I will not quote on other ECUs since I have never had experience with them. However, I can tell you that the Wolf3Dv4 is fully programmable via the hand controller or a lap top and you can make real time changes while driving. I would assume that most other reputable ECUs have the same capabilties since after all, you must be able to make real-time changes while driving or you could never tune your car (ie road/dyno tuning) properly.

Road tuning is dangerous and not worth it. You have to tune you car are different load points and really for this the dyno is the best and safest solution. How would you measure your A/F ratio anyway?

Power FC is laptopable with the FC-Datalogit kit from New Zealand.. check it out, if you're intersted in PFC that is, there is a few things you can do wiht the laptop that you can't do with the hand controller, like change the thermo fan swithc on point below 95deg..

Haltech can do it too. I've been told tho dont waste your money on a stupid fast laptop, a $20 P1 would do the trick for most of them.

And with wolf 3D V4s software its just on their website, people looking at that system should just DL it anyway and have a look, seems fairly good.

Yeah good idea! It will give you an indication of what you can do with the Wolf. For $1100, theres no better alternative.

well i already have a laptop - i wouldn't be buying one just for this

but mainly after logging and changeing small stuff - nothing major...

yeha, dumbass doens't know much nor thinks about what he buys - he walked into autobahn and said "i want a 3" exhasut system and a FMIC - what you got" and they showed him BLITZ FMIC and cat back system first, he's like "i'll take it" didn't even want to know what price they were doing for him......cost him over 3k for thos 2 items...

tried the wolf 3d on my R33 and it wasn't plug and play, had many problems with he trigger switch,any people say they are good......I didn't rate them as a plug and play, go the power fc!

the software isnt free and you need a dongle to be able to plug it into the powerfc so if you had the software you still can't use it. you have to buy the fc datalogit as a kit which is the software and dongle

yeah, but surely a dongle could be made up? or not?

yeah youd need the wiring diagrams for the hand controller. i think funkymonkey may have worked out how to do it, not sure. it was covered in a thread a while ago somewhere
