Coming to Japan need to know a few things...

Hi,

Coming to Japan on 1st Feb, Mainly to go snowboarding in Niseko... so one quick easy q... will my Samsung E700 work over there (obv has int roaming on)?

Other q is, when snowboarding me and my bro carry UHF's, in Aus there is 40 licence free chans ranging from 476.400MHz-477.400MHz. Will transmitting on these chans in Japan get us into any trouble? IE: are any of these frequencies reserved for emergancy services or signalling? (Have no idea where to find this info!)

Phones in japan use a different network than our cheap shitty one. Thats why phones from japan are not compatable here. UNless Japan has 2 different types of networks but i doubt it.

network wise australia has a fairly good coverage.... often here in japan i cant get reception due to many many black spots. It could just be my poor FOMA (video phone) .. (which will be upgrade in april)

the point im trying to get at is at the moment with my phone i was happier with australias network coverage

We've used australian cb's in japan a bit - climbing fuji, at the jgtc etc - however I've no idea whether we were allowed to or not. There wasn't any traffic on the frequencies however that could simply mean there were a whole lot of confused ambo drivers. I guess the thing to keep in mind is that if you are going to get in trouble for using them it's not going to be hard for them to figure out who it is.

re the phones, in japan it's w-cdma. The first phone I've seen available in aus (there are a few in japan) which can handle w-cdma and gsm is the nokia 6630 which is either just released or about to be released. Getting it to work in japan is the next challenge, vodaphone would probably be the best people to speak to.

ill say try it still oh well. it doesnt hurt. we use cb all the time from work and i dont hear anyone getting bothered.

On a similar topic:

A couple of mates are going snowboarding next week in Sapporo and will have a few days in town during some sort of winter festival. They want to know if there are any motorsport events or tuning houses' that would be worth a visit while they are there.
