Gday,

I took my car for a quick drive yesterday and noticed ONCE and only ONCE when I pulled up to my driveway and it got under 10-15kmh it started grinding.. My foot was on the brake applying even pressure from about 60kmh and it only started when the car really slowed down to 10-15kmh. The sound sounded as if it was shuddering, almost like I would imagine it would sound as if it had no pads or something.

I immediately took my foot off the brake and tried to replicate it. Thing is there was no difference in pedal feel nor was there any shuddering of the car, just the sound of something rubbing and I couldn't make it do it again.

Question is - what should I check? I heard the project mu pads I use have been known to fall off their backing but I checked that and sure enough the pads there. Also the few times after that I pulled the car up seemed to work fine.

I'm once again scared to drive it as it's a brake issue but all the fluid has been flushed a few months ago (and I've driven the car less than 100km since then) and the pads changed. Everything looks normal from a layman's visual inspection.

I've had some suspension bits fitted but I can't see them fouling anything especially as this would happen when I'm braking from 60kmh.

Anyone have any clues?

Sometimes the compound of your pads can do this but if it is only a recent noise that happened only once then chances are that Duncan is right and it was a rock.

If you take the wheel off and inspect the rotor you should see the scuff mark where the rock ran or is still running. Usually once you reverse it throws the rock out and you never hear it again. Or once the rock breaks or wears down it will disappear. This happens in a matter of seconds.

Re-hashing what appears to be a VERY old thread lol but this is what my car is doing exactly (98 r34 gtt)!

Except it has happened 4 or 5 times over the past few days.

It happened once then didnt happen for a day or so, so I thought it was nothing.

Then it has happened a few other times recently?

Having a mechanic mate look at my car Wednesday for service etc and will run it past him, but thoght Id get some of your views first.

Cheers fellas.
