Aaron - rofl true true.. but we dont have turbos :( All I am saying is just becareful, because I have seen people build those intakes and it feeds directly from one of the vents from the front bar, so basically if u drive through a puddle - water is going to go in.

Col-GTSX carbon fibre aye... sounds good. But us NA'eans dont have the intercooler hole

that GTSTs have.

Yeah, im going to go with the pod guys and either build or buy a box. not sure yet..

kinda leaning towards building one but i cant be bothered spending the time but the advantage is that with building it i wouldnt have the intercooler holes etc in the box that the other boxes do..

I'll let you know how i go, might even put up a DIY guide if i go and build one but i doubt it yet..

Thanks for all your replys.

Hi, have played on the dyno with a Pod and an Air box and really, there is no noticeable power gains to be had. A perfect example is when I had my 34 retuned, came back with an extra 10kw at the wheels but I swear if I didn't see a dyno sheet I wouldn't of known, 10 rw kw isn't really all that much and when you look at the gain to be had using a pod (if any) it's really not worth it unless you like the look/sound. Just get a K&N or BMC panel filter, work a treat and cops don't care. :D

I heard that in Vic you HAVE TO HAVE a BOX around the PANEL/POD filter otherwise they give you a yellow sticker. Anyone verify?

In fact no, they do not, they are a no go full stop.

(can't seem to post a pic for some reason so you'll have to click, it's a scan of an EPA letter from Vic)

Thanks to SKY031 for that

what does oiled mean ??...

sorry to ask stupid questions, are air pods and panel pods/filters the same thing? and do you need a turbo for the pods/filter to work around?

Oiled pods are like K&N ones where the pod filter is lubricated. Panel and pod filters are completly different things, as a panel filter is simply a panel used in your stock air box and a pod is a filter in the shape of a cone. Turbos are most definatly NOT essential for a Pod/ panel filter although u do get that lovely WHOOSH noise from forced induction.

Ohh ok, so if the oiled ones just have lubrication why are they illegal? are they unsafe for some reason ??

and without a turbo, will you NOT get the nice WOOSH sound from your airpod ?

generalli no, u wont get that sound. it is possible if u have a cold air induction to make the sound louder, but once i put my exhaust on, u cant hear the suckin of the pod anymore. Bear in mind that my car is non-turbo. i have heard that there are much louder pods such as the apexi n1 i think, and the HKS mushroom pod is quite a loud one as well.

loud is not always good - loud = more ait passing = less filtration ;)

you need to find the happy medium between quality air and the amount, the apexi/K&N range do a great job

and oiled are illegal unless CAI boxed due to the oil may ignite - it has happened before...

Can i add a few things to your choice. i own an r34, with a K&N panel filter, 3inch pipe running from the front spoiler(were the stock intercooler sits) running straight into the box and then ive got a high flow cat into a 3inch exhaust. ive tried pods and different exhausts but this seems to be the best performing. also the EPA hates you if you go for the pod and it does suck in engine heat which makes it fire with less combustion. hope this helps

oh damn im an idiot, i didnt even think of the oil igniting :s

i'de deffinatly want a non oiled one then heh.

mmm i dont really mind if theres no sound, as long as its helpin my car, it would just be nice to have something eye ( or in this case, EAR ) catching since it doesnt have a turbo, and i guess no turbo means no BOV ?
