Strange plug on ECU ? what the?

Take a look at this, I went to install my RSM yesterday, and found that there had previously been a device spliced into the IGN POWER and RPM wires coming from the ecu.

There was a big bundle of wires wrapped in black tape I unwrapped and came across this brown plug, it looks to be spliced into the ECU, but "blocked off" and not in use. Does it look familiar to anyone ?

i had one of those in my car, i did ask what it was, but i've forgotten now... I'll have to find out again.... from what i can remember that doesn't plug into anything its a device to connect multiple wires together... like a loopback device...
