I am a Tafe teacher, in the auto trade. You would be surprised at just how many students stick it out and then go and get jobs driving fork lifts or landscaping and making twice the money. There is No money in the trade and after a 4 year apprenticeship your paid less than a labourer. Stick school out and aim a little higher.

2GU Up 2, I think u missed drftr33s point a little.

From my limited experience in the automotive industry i have seen that the profit margins seem to be damn thin. Therefore they dont have omney to splash out with and be good to people with. I can make about a 1000 comments about people getting screwed over by dodgy workshops etc but im not going to. What i think that Drft was trying to say is that you will exploited by the people u just want to learn from and will ultimately be unhappy with your choices.

Hey i like cooking but if i did it every day at work it would piss me off having to come home and cook. I basically change my oil and do basic stuff and even that pisses me off sometimes, damn electrics, cars are fun but in moderation. But thats just me but. :D

Hey sit back and enjoy the ride u only have to do 200 days a year which is 50 less than the rest of us chumps and we have to stress about paying bills and all that crap. There will be time, if school is not ure thing just wait it out, get a pass and then go do as you please.

That is the unfortunate truth about the trade. Its also one of the reasons its hard to find a good mechanic.
