Hello all,

I am new to SAU and I currently have a R33 GTST 4speed auto. I currently have a 3" HKS exhaust system and a k&n air pod, but besides that it is stock standard.

I would love some suggestions on initial mods to get a bit more out of the car. I don't want to spend tens of thousands, but I am prepared to spend a little on some light mods.

I have a friend who mentioned that obtaining and installing a front mount intercooler and a boost controller is all I would have to do to push the car to about 150-200kw without too much hassle.

Is there anything else I should consider before getting any of these components (ie. ecu, bov, etc.)? Any other easy mods that wont cost the earth that I should look at?

Are there any particular brands/models you guys would consider as good value for money without taking out a home loan? I dont want to do a 10sec quarter just yet.....maybe one day.

Thanks all, your opinions are greatly appreciated.

BOOMAU.

I'd start by getting your current engine checked out - get a compression / leak down test done FIRST. Maybe even a power run on a dyno (should only cost you $120 or so)

That way you will have a better idea of the health of your bottom end, and the engine in general.

Then start to tweak things up.

just one mans opinion :P

doesn't matter what you do to your car it is never quick enough. I only installed a whole heap of parts about 3 weeks ago, already I am looking for a bigger turbo. all I am saying is be prepared you will spend alot of money on your car. I can't be helped.

Yeah I realise that, but I am trying to resist the temptation to spend a small fortune on my car.

I would like some ideas on a good starting point to build from, something that can get my car running a bit quicker than standard.

What do you guys think of installing an APEXI AVC-R with a front mount intercooler say a Blitz, and a blow off valve (open to suggestion on a brand)?

I think that I am going to leave my turbo standard at this stage, please correct me if I am wrong but can standard turbo handle up to about 12psi without too much trouble?

Please don't flame me for sounding like an idiot if this makes no sense or sounds stupid. Would like some suggestions.

Thanks

avcr is a waste of money. hks evc or blitz ebc for about 1/2 the price of the avcr

or even a $100 bleed value, but the bleed valve will spike. i got my hks evc 3 for $250 and its perfect. set boost to 0.75 bar and its an ebc so it doesnt spike. boost controller is set and forget screw the cool looking screen thingy on the dash (avcr unit)

intercooler just take it to a local workshop and say supply and fit one, brand is pointless its just metal. you should be able to get a good core supplied and fitted with piping for $1300 whereas a blitz kit will be 1400 not fitted

blow off valve will add no power and give you defect points and stall problems if not adjusted properly stock bov is fine

run about 10/11psi through the stock turbo no more

check out an ecu remap or aftermarket ecu (powerfc comes to mind)

remap for about $300 or powerfc for $1000

also looking into a good set of tyres and cold air intake kit

as ive just read its auto so look at apexi safc + remapped ecu at the worst case

cant get powerfc as its auto so a remap and apexi safc will probably give you best bang for buck

200rwkw shouldnt be too hard to get to

ive got

powerfc

5 speed manual (not auto sorry so not a good comparison)

fmic (some hybrid brand no idea)

3" exhaust system from turbo back with new hiflow cat

hks evc3 running 0.75 bar

pod in engine bay (bad idea should be cold air feed)

255 tyres on the rear help traction

gets tuned tomorrow should get 200rwkw hopefully
