Whats the go with this ?

We are both merging onto the freeway, I gun it, and this guy keeps up with me?

Im talking about 30 clicks to about 110 km/hr

I suppose a stock M3 keeps up with the gtr on the straights ?

Sorry, this is just a random rant

I think im trying to coerce myself to start modding my GTR

I know ive posted in this section before, but im pretty sure ill be doing exhaust fairly soon

front pipe + hi flow cat + custom cat back + some sort of QUIET dual tip muffler

Mmmmmm, E46 M3.

I'll take one over my GTR anyday.

Put it this way, they're not slow. They weigh about the same as a 33 GTR and have a 3.2L staight 6 pushing 252kw (7900rpm) and 365nm (4900 rpm).

I'd say that they should be able to keep up with a fairly stockish GTR both in a straight line and round a track.

Leewah, the NOS is making you loose your sanity  kidding... they're a very very nice car, infact they are one of the only cars that are covered under manufacturers warranty on a race track and they're a super balanced car.

a stock gtr will still getaway rolling or off the line, I've got a few mates that have them, in SMG, Manual, and a mate that just sold his M3 Convertible SMG, Silver on Red with 19's... out of pick the coupe manual is go, the smg is fun and easy with off the line, with it's launch control, but too many buttons to press, if your put on the spot for a run off the line... the convertible is purely hollywood and goes like a stock WRX, very bottom heavy and ways about 200Kg more. if your over the jap scence then yeh a m3 will do.

Leewah, I know of a carbon black on black coupe, which has had and chip, exhaust and airfilter upgrade, it makes over 300kw, that for sale..

Yeah E46 M3 is my next car hopefully

A stock GTR vs stock M3 (no exaust etc..) would be pretty close i'd imagine...

I don't know that much about the M3, but i don't think its as modable as a GTR - ie throw onexaust, up boost, and tune etc... and it should pull away from the M3... because the M3 does it on a N/A 3.2litre it doesn't have as much room to move... i heard the E46 M3 had problems with throwing rods in the states...

As for the manufacturers warrenty on a race track, who told you that meshmesh? thats interesting i've never heard that. are you talking about the CSL or the normal M3?

Well the other day proved that stock for stock they're pretty even

Im talking stock exhausts also, and ive removed the boost restrictor.

Mind you, my engines probably more worn than the M's

Hopefully next time I face one of these, I'll have an exhaust, which will make things more interesting

CSL and Standard M3's, I got this from the No1. Managers mouth... I just rang him again to confirm, and he says yes they will cover you... he rasied a good point aswell, saying "BMW themselves organise race days, where clients can bring their own M3's down and race, and if anything happens they will still be covered"..

I could be mistaken, and this might only be a "mate rates" package for us, but as far as what I've been told (confirmed only five minutes ago) from BMW themselves.. if I buy an M3 today take it sandown on sunday, blow a diff, I will be covered.

Yeah E46 M3 is my next car hopefully

You are right e46's do throw rods not just in the states , plenty have done here too .

There is not a lot in the stock gtr V E46 M3 but down the 1/4 mile the gtr has it on the M3 by a few 10ths of a sec .

As for moding the 2 cars , turbos are always easier to get more power .

If I bought an E46 M3, I wouldn't be mucking around with turbos and the like. The tuning on the M3 is already second to none. I love the power delivery and everything else about the car. The only thing I don't really like about it is the really thick steering wheel.

Life is bliss when driving one.

Mesh, PM me yr contact details mate.

BMW Dont have Race days ,, They are Driver Training Days at the Race Track ..

which is ok .... some of the reasons they DID have trouble with the rods is Because People Didnt run the engines in for 2000Kms and were not keeping to 5500 RPM limit for 2000kms ,, ALso there is only 1 APPROVED OIL for this Motor which castrol Make only for BMW ,, All cars in the last 12 months have a New Conrod material ..and all the ealier Cars have been updated .. So the Problem is Fixed ..

when my previous R33 GTR was stock (except restrictor) I had a rolling run to about midway through 3rd and I beat a new M3 by quite a lot (3carlengths maybe) this was a rolling start off the lights and no launch. my caar in that current state of tune (stock bar 2psi increase) rand hd clutch ran a 12.8 @108

Check out the DTM forums. theres quite a few guys there who turbocharge thier beemers. theres also a few with turbo M3s. however i would imagine, that GTRs would give you better "bang for a mod" and also has a much more expansive tuner base. i would prob take a (E36+)M3 over a GTR because of german build quality, mixing class with power.

CSL may be a different story, but my friend (i work with at work) is a BMW nut... knows everything about them :D He was the one who called BMW and the official word from thier customer service department was no, not covered for track use...

He also has a friend who is a senior/head mechanic at a BMW dealership... a story he told us was 1 customer blew up 2 engines in an M3, they replaced them under warrenty, then heard he was racing around sandown, so sent a PI down to take photos and next time he came in for a warrenty claim he was told 'sorry'.... he did say BMW are pretty good with warrenty stuff, but if you start taking the piss and blatently blowing things up due to race use, then no luck.

So its probably a mates rates thing, if your mate is a manager of a BMW dealership then i guess he can just overlook the fact you've taken it on the track. lucky bastard :D

Thats what i got told...

I love the E46 M3, the looks, the style etc... i don't think i'd change a thing (except the price tag) :D

It would be a tough choice between an E46 M3 and a 34GTR, would come down what you wanted to use it for, if track car, GTR.. or if more a daily driver, M3...

Yeah to be honest ide choose a 34 GTR over an M3 without a hesitation,

But what everyone is talking about is the daily driver ability of the M3, ofcourse you can daily drive a 34GTR, but for daily driving an M3 would be hellastyle and luxury

I know where leewah's coming from, you rock up in a Silver with Red M3, sitting 19's and people will think hmmm, bit of class, maybe hollywood :D

but rock up in an 100K R34, and they'll say... must be a jap boy, ricer, hoon.. nice car, nah maybe!!, they'll probably be looking for toys stuck on the dash :)

maybe not too that extreem, but you get the gist.

PS: using this account coz problems with my meshmesh account  :(

    • Update:   smoke test all pipes no issues cleaned reservoir   fluid put in ( dexron 3 atf)   steering turn side to side and could hearing  gurgling from steering rack which I assumed was air lock, opened one of the steering rack connections and could see loads of air getting pushed out( not sure if you meant to do that / whether it will re introduce air into system)   anyways, loads of side to side sound was gone. Turned car on, pump was slightly ( barely) wining so turned side to side few more turns and fluid level when car on was almost none in resorvoir which I guess is normal if car is one. Turned car of and fluid was gushing out. Almost 200-300cc was pushed out. Repeated engine off side to side followed  by engine on and same result       going mad now. It seems system is either sucking air in whilst on or there is tons of air which I am not giving it enough time to bleed. Thoughts?   would it work like brake caliper if I open steering rack copper pipes and let gravity pull all air out?   or maybe have a restriction somewhere? What is the red circled item, could that be blocked? It i
    • Yeah, the plan is to just put some black rubber vacuum line caps over them to "hide" them a bit I don't want to trim them in cause I need to put the OEM box back on at some stage
    • It's a load sense idle up valve.
    • Plug and play. Need a tune. It's a PowerFC, same as any other PFC, just not needing an AFM.
    • Genuine GTR seat? There are none you would actually want for <$3k a pair.
