This morning was driving to work, went through Goulman (sp) st in Chapel Hill. Got flashed by some guy which is very rare in that area. After going through the 40km/hr school zone there is a bus stop on either side of the road. In the bus stop to the left there was a cop hiding with a radar. He was not next to it, infront of it or ontop of it, he was hiding INSIDE the bus stop trying to do people.

This road at the best of times is hard to stick to the 50km/hr limit due to the fact that 50% of the road is a steep decsent.

His bike was not even near him, it was hidden behind the bus stop on the other side of the road!

Sorry for the rant, i just think that it is digusting what they do and this sort of thing proves the recent revenue raising discussions have some truth behind them.

Steve

p.s i didnt get done

40km limits are ridiculous.. nobody obeys them I have observed.. and my car has trouble even staying at 40km/hr being an auto.. its almost too hard to keep driving applying the accelerator without stopping!

50km/hr is ok.. if u can't stop from 50 to 0 in about 1 second what diff is 40 going to make if you are note even paying attention in the first place? its the attention, not the speed you are going at.

going 40km/hr my concentration totally goes out the window anyhow.. my mind tunes out.. i'm no longer driving, i may as well be walking.. its more dangerous than me going 100km/r

Preditor,

40 zones are usually associated with School zones around here. Maybe it's different there, but I only know 1x40 zone here that ISN'T a school zone. So I don't have a big problem with it. 40 sux, but it's only a 1min drive through a school zone, it doesn't effect your trip that much. Fair enough your car doesn't like it...but still it obviously can handle it. The thing that annoys me is people doing 40 in the school zone, even tho it's night time, or lunch time (ie. outside school zone times)

50 zones are a joke, i reckon it shoulda stayed at 60, where I live (raymond terrace) the main rd (Which was the highway until the bypass went in) is a 50 zone, it's a joke, you gotta drive at 50 for about 5kms or something. It should be an 80 zone, it is a big stretch of road.

But yeah, alot of speed limits are silly. But some are needed, espcially the school zones.

Back on topic - That cop should get his a$$ handed to him.

I have been told that cops have to have a sign out xx metres before the radar trap, plus be clearly visable both vehicle and person. I have no idea if this is true or not, but have been told if you appeal it, and they were hidden, and no signs up, then you will get off.... that said that means any cop on the move can't get you....and I have NEVER seen a mobile radar with signs out - Only the fixed ones do that. So I am guessing what I heard is incorrect. But if it is correct, then make sure you get a photo of Mr Policeman hiding if they do book you.

:werd:

Never have truer words been spoken...

I have no problem with 40km/h speed limits in school zones... Probably because I have kids that are at risk in these areas...

My bitch is with how they enforce it... Hiding in a bus stop, after the school zone, doesn't really do anything to slow people down in the school zone... He might catch 2 or 3 people in the morning, but the rest of the population just think "Sh1t! Lucky I got away with it today... He won't be here tomorrow though..."

If they stuck f**king giant fixed speed cameras, or rows of bright clothed police knobs, in areas that are dangerous, (IE school zones), it would do alot more to slow people down... Revising some of the speed limits around the place would do a fair bit to help too...

You're not alone Steve... I honestly don't think it will be long before the public cry enough, and traffic issues (speeding, defects, etc) become a political issue...

They had a cop with a laser on Juliette St the other day...he was kneeling on the pavement with his body pushed up against a pole picking people off from behind it.

All I thought was, I hope some dog had just pissed on that pole

You would think that if they were trying to "serve and protect" they would put cameras in areas where there are crashes etc. I agree with you adrian, a cop hiding in a bus stop is not going to do shyte, if people could see him at least they would slow down and possibly stop an accident with a child walking to school! Wish i took the camera this morning...

well it kind of does work.. i mean I don't do anything stupid through school zones anymore, seeing as the amount of times I have seen cameras and things has too much to bother risking it.

whether that is saving lives who knows.. it is pretty chaotic after school, kids run around everywhere, mothers trying to park their trucks (stupid 4wds) without backing into a kid.. if they had more control (school wardens or something), and stop kids running around like maniacs, that would probably help as much as trying to slow the cars down. I know that is not so practical, still.

unfortunately police hiding behind bushes and at the bottom of steep hills will remain a fact of life. if they need to make their quota they will resort to anything to make it.

that said if you are speeding in a school zone you deserve whatever comes at you kids don't have any road sense. thats why we as competent road users need to pay more attention to what we are doing. Also the reasoning behind reducing 60 zones to 50 was to keep our roads safe for children. An emergency brake from 60 is harder to control than one from 50.

if anything there needs to be more goverment incentive to become a better driver rather than a slower one. imagine if they put all our speeding fines back into driver education.

i could go on and on but i won't.

drive safely.

myR32. totally agree, however my gripe isnt the speed limit but the positioning of the pig who was holding the gun. I also think that anyone speeding in a school zone deserves to get done royally. I dont think anyone could live with themselves if they hit somebody's child, i know i couldnt.

i just think its ridiculous the methods they use to meet thier quotas

Being a parent I have often gone to pick up the kids and seen people driving along at 40kph and still swerve to miss children who just dont reckognise the danger.

I really think that 40kph is too fast in some school zones which for some stupid reason they stick schools bordering 80kph main road zones which is absolutly spastic, they should fence off these and provide overhead crossings for children instead of putting them in the position of them "thinking" they can make it.

But I dont think this thread is really about the 40kph zones, it's about piggies which hide and then get you for doing 1kph over the limit and then look at your pod and go, WOW that is very dangerous, please pay $75 for nothing and lose a point, oh and hang on a sec, I can fill out my whole quota of tickets today just on this one car, hey that exhaust LOOKS loud, that's a defect, oooooooooo your seat is a bit too far laid back, that's a defect, OH MY GOD is that a SUB, that's a defect, and look your car has aftermarket PAINT on it, that's a defect, just bend over for about an hour or so, I'll tell you when I'm finished!

People say "Take it to the track to race!" and stuff, but excessive acceleration up to the speed limit, WTF is that, oh hang on a sec, DONT use that accelerator AT ALL, That's a defect even having an accelerator pedal!

But it's not going to change, people say "Oh let's sign petitions and stuff." but that is never going to work, why because it is earning them money, and in the end that is all it is, plain and simple, and there is no way that they will let anyone change that.

Anyway, now I've had my second rant, I'm going to make more coffee, OMG drinking coffee while looking at your car is a defect!

    • Starting with issues 1 - 5, we have already run into a problem...!  Issue #4 contained 2x front brake calipers, instead of 1 caliper and 1x steering knuckle. Will have to call DeAgostini on Monday to sort it out. Anyway here's some photos.  Issue #1 is the front bumper, headlights and number plate. Issue #2 is the front wheel (with "We produced with spartan air." text on the centre cap!) and tyre, the front lip spoiler and cylinder head cover with ignition coils under the centre cover... which will never be seen again. Issue #3 is the bonnet and cylinder head. Issue #4 is the front strut, brake disc (with laser etched metal discs) and brake caliper. I stopped here because of the issue with the missing steering knuckle.  Next update will be #5 - #10 in a few weeks.
    • DeAgostini is one of a few companies that release quite large (the largest commonly available size actually) 1/8 scale models in a series of weekly issues over 100 - 110 instalments.  They release different models for different markets and DeAgostini Japan have release the BNR32 Skyline GT-R Nismo last month. I've made two of these 1/8 scale sized cars (one an R35 GT-R from 2012 - 2014, the other I'm just about halfway through, a BNR34 Skyline GT-R from the 2Fast 2Furious movie) so when this R32 was announced there was no way I could ignore it as it's my favourite out of all Nissans.  Each issue costs around $20 so it costs about $2.2K when completed. I suppose it is very expensive for what it is, but the quality and details are really very good, and there are many "gimmicks" like fully functioning exterior and interior lights operated with a remote control, working steering, all doors/bonnet/boot/fuel lid open and close, the side mirrors fold in and it even has a speaker for the engine revving sounds when you turn the lights on.  Each issue comes with a magazine that tells the story of the BNR32 Skyline GT-R Nismo from the first design stages of the BNR32 to Group A homologation and the various racing version that were run in the Japanese Group A and JGTC, and Australian Group A.  So I plan to update the build in this thread 5 issues at a time.  https://deagostini.jp/r32/?srsltid=AfmBOooKjxDc4EUK2rmXqMBPgyHfFJ24s4oEPJBNpnF-lFlsRoW0PE6P
    • As per title.. has anyone used so far? Keen to hear results, comparisons. In the market for a new mani for my new turbo. Any issues cracking?
    • Re read everything that has been written about this in this thread.. Let us know if you're still confused.
    • This would be a new pump with new gears. I'm just unclear on whether it's a good idea to run more oil pump flow if you don't actually need said flow. Oil level is set a minute or so after shutting off a warm engine so wouldn't the high RPM oil level in the sump end up lower all things equal? Plan is OEM clearances, main concern in my mind is whether the OEM pump can keep up with the flow requirements of any additional oil coolers.
