R32 Oil pressure sender switch probs

have an 89 r32 gts4

last nite drivin home.. red light on oil gauge came on and gauge dropped to zero

car dropped below 1000revs and at idle kept switching off

got home let car sit for an hour

started her up.. and oil gauge went back to normal

wats the normal gauge readin suppose 2 sit at?

any tips wats causing this???

That red light is bad news, it more or less means 0psi pressure, and generally is not wrong

I'd get it checked out by a mechanic ASAP with a proper oil pressure gauge

Did you check the oil level in the engine? When was the last time you changed the oil?

yeh checked oil and theres definetely oil in there

i drove the car 2day and it was sitting normal so dunno wat the hells going on

Could be the sender about to pass on to greener pastures. Try a new one - may not be cheap, but cheaper than a new engine.

Some crap in the oil may have gotten stuck in the pressure relief valve in the oil pump. Then when you shut it down it may have dislodged.

Another word of advice...when the light comes on - stop the car.

if you keep driving you'll kill the bearings.
