Turbo Pinging

most likely this is a Stupid question but wats it mean when ur turbo kinda pings

allot of ppl have said to me that my turbo sounds like its pinging

and if so wat can i do 2 stop it

um i have never heard of a turbo "pinging" that would be your engine leaning out probably = not good = dead engine pretty soon

Pinging a layman's term for preignition. Preignition is just what the name denotes: your air/fuel mix ignites in your combustion chamber before the intended spark form your ignition system. Not good. To solve tis problem, first make sure you run 98 ron. Second, dont run more boost than standard unless your tuning it and voila. Or run more boost with a cooler but remember that pinging occurs before it is audible to the ear which means engine damage does too. So dont be like a lot of those other pimple-faced sitting as far back as possible in their car and get your car tuned, or be conservative with boost. Besides, running more boost wont give you necessarily more power in some cases.

Depends how bad the pinging is will results in how bad ur engine is damage. my car has been soo called "pinging" for about 2-3months and car still runs 100%

i dunno exactly wats the go with it, but 1st and 2nd gears when i put on the gas the turbo sounds screetchy as it winds up?

any clues?

Hey,

I had a mate, with a turbo that't worn quiet bad. The turbo shaft had about 8mm end play. The scraping of the compressor blade on the front housing would make a similar "scccrech" Not a pinging as you describe. Hope it helps.
