Hey Mick

I totally disagree with what your saying about the GTR's handling, but then what do i know... Ive always driven a rear wheel drive and for the 2 years i have had my GTR i wouldnt change it. I love the way the 4wd works and would never try to make it act like a WRX.

if you do use a torque splitter like the HKS one, and you drive around with a higher torque split (say for arguements sake 50/50) will the front diff (or whatever part of the drivetrain) take much more of a beating in day to day driving, ie. was the front wheel drive designed as a safety device not meant for prolonged use, or is it as tough as the rear wheel drive system (i hope you get what i mean!)

who else other than HKS make torque Splitters for R33 GTR's?

interesting responses from the GTR guys here.....heres mine...

I usually estimate the corner speed the vehicle is capable of before the turn jump on the brakes in the straight section just before the corner and wash off the excess speed... then just before entering the corner stand on the gas pedal and let the car do the rest.....this CAN however result severe undie stains due to the car going out of shape if the speed is misjudged or the traction is a problem but if judged correctly the car will dispurse the power accordingly...but what ever you do dont back off the gas or this will cause loss of drive to the front resulting in overshooting the corner......i would not recommend using this technique on the road or on corners you are unfamilliar with.Mastering this technique can result in some pretty awsome 4WD drifts!I find this way is quite affective in shortning the delay of the split drive system...however can be quite annoying to the drivers behind you because is kinda stuffs up there entry speed.

if anyone one wants a gtr to handle like a Hyundi WRX please sell you car and buy one of these (for the sake of your car).

if you want to understear why by a gtr

the reason they r so much fun to drive is casue you hang the arse out cleanly in all conditions

fair enought if you have a track car and you have to adjust the 4wd to get the best lap time but a street car please say you r joking...... please

if it aint broke dont fix it

Dont get me wrong I am in no way trying to make the car behave like a WRX does. I found the WRX's to be a very disapointing car in the handling department. I just want the front wheel to come into action far earlier and stronger in the corners than the manufacturer designed. I like the car to be more neutral and thus faster in the corners. Granted it is less exciting.

hey mick did you base your torque splitter on the autospeed design or is this one of your own designs? sounds very interesting!

Yes the original one was based on the Autospeed design as written about by Julian. The next lot will be a lot different though.

Once again I cannot talk about the HKS units. But in the one I designed as described above the torgue splitter would be lucky to bring the front diff in less than 1% of the time more. It will not make it run 50/50 if ever and cartainly not all the time. It only allows the fron wheel to drive more once the Long/sensor has brought then in through acceleration.

Whether or not you call something broke is a matter of opinion. If you like slow but showie it is cool but it is up to you. Me, I'll take fast. Hey if I want to bring the tail out I will turn it down.

Never said I wanted the car to understeer. Last thing I want. I always want the car to stay more tail driven and steer from the rear but not like it did standard. Spectaular? Sure. Fun? Sure. Fast? No. The GTR is vastly superior to the WRX in the handling stakes but it is not perfect. For me all cars are rated in terms of potential. How good can I make it? I have put Mod Exhaust, air pods, boost controller, with Adj Cam gears to come, to make it better in the performance stakes. The torgue splitter just does the same thing but for the suspension.

Improves what is there.

Mick.

each to there own i suppose

i like to have fun at the track most of the time. however i can also drive the gtr pretty fast (as opposed to a camary) on the odd ocassion

personally when drivig fast at the track(timed) i generally put the gtr in 2wd because its more of a challenge to extract a decent time and more rewarding

but then again my car is only standard and not going to beat much

all the best hope you cain some lap times

Yes , you will wear the ATTESSA clutch packs out quicker and it is a pain to drive around slow corners.

The HKS controller on manual setting keeps the fluid pressure on the 4wd packs and makes the wheels chatter at slow speed cos it's trying to stop them turning at different rates around the corner.

In auto mode it dials up about 30-40 whetevers on the gauge to the front wheels once the vehicle exceeds 15kmh and then disengages once it goes below that speed again.

In the wet with it dialled up it is bloody good and you can go qucker than Jimmy Richards ( if your stupid enough )

I nearly lost the car in 90deg corner yesterday - everything's right except I floored it too soon and too much so it started to fishtail big time..it doesn't help when all I did was flooring the clutch and the brake so it was a handful to catch it. I even forgot the semi-slicks are still cold and hard..

Maybe I've got too used to driving WRX and the GTi-R.
