My situation and my plan :D

Hi there fellas, just thought ide post my situation and my plan for when im going to buy my car, maybe you guys can give me some tips or sugestions

My situation is kinda screwed up, i stoped studying last year and havent got a job, wich means ive had 0$ and been living of my mum for almost a year now lol, and i feel super stupid for dropping out of my tafe course because if i was still studying i would most likely have enough money to buy my self a decent car.

My mum said she will lend me some money untill i get my self back on track, then i can pay her back. Im not sure exactly how much money she will give me but hopefully enough.

My plan at the start was to find a decent stock s13, Although an s14 and s15 would be nice they are not really in my price range, what i was going to do was keep this s13 and save for an r32 GTR, i know they are old but theres something about the r32 gtr's that i just love.

i was hoping to get a decent s13 for around the 5K mark, although i havent seen one advertised anywhere for that low, If anyone knows the average price range for an s13 please let me know.

my other plan was to import a car, maybe from somewhere like http://www.batfa.com/ . But then i learnt all about these compliance costs, alot of people have told me to top of the car price with another 5K because of it, so that kind of reuined my plan for importing a car.

But i asked a couple more people, and they said a car that is over 15 years old would not have such a high compliance cost, so if anyone knows about this please let me know. ( sorry if its all been asked before, i havent had much time to go threw this forum, i will do so later tonight when i have some free time. )

So does anyone have some tips or advice, or just general knowlage i should know before i go out and search for an s13?

quick question, how old are you? cause insurance is another matter too about getting a car. If you are borrowing money to buy a car can you afford the ongoing cost too? not trying to bad mouth you dude just letting you know about the other money involved too

good to hear you thinking about it and not jumping in to it. im 18 and at tafe (doing my 1st year) i own an r33 skyline and currenetly working part time and not making that much money (lucky to make $200 a week) and its really hard to drive my skyline everday (i sold it to my dad a few weeks back and buying myself a cheaper car)

insruacen is the biggest cost if ur young full over is like $4100 at the age 17, and if u have been insuranced for 1 year is around $2300 a year. fuel is about $50 a week due to the fact if u run a turbo import u should uses BP 98 only (which is always $1 or higher a Litre)

then u got to put away money for serives (which are like every 5000km and about $100-$150) then u got the little things that happen out of the blue (like for example i was driving and blow my oil line to the turbo wouldnt really happen to a stock car but mine had been change etc and that cost me around $300 or so to fix)

Imports/Turbo cars are alot of money, im going to swap to an n/a r32 or s13 type car now and it should bring down the cost of fuel/ and daily cost by alot

also with importing a 15yr car (at the moment the law hasnt change but alot of people think it will soon)your looking at a max of $2000 for compliance, you could get an s13 or 180sx for under 6k-8k

also if ur importing there is abit of wait, 1st you got to find you car and depend on what you want stock/ km/ mods/ colour/ 5spd or auto, it would take sometime then there is importing time etc etc. so it many take a few months

I reckon $5k will be pushing it for anything decent, no offence...

My mate just got a AE86 for a bit over that, looks pretty nice, maybe a bit more you can get a R32 gtst. Also another mate just got a Liberty RS with a few things done to it for $10500, as quick as my car but worth about half as much. Dont know if the budget will stretch that far tho

ae86 are over prices, that isn't a good guide. my mate bought one in nov and it cost him 3.4k it was full of rust and shit ass paint job but had 4age, stocker ae86 4ac sell for that price if in good condtion (they have a cult thing going so that pushs the price up)

buying stock s13 from japan will cost you around 1k (yes check out auctions the car themself can be as cheap as 1k) and these were clean stocky cars nothing specail but not a pill of shit

EDIT : you mean 5K pushing it for an s13 ?, Hmm i just thought that would be what they are worth, ive seen alot of them for sale, done up with turbo's intercoolers and other mods for around 8K, so i figured minus all the mods it would hit around 5k.

Well im only 17, I know im young but once i settle down with a job im hoping to move out of home to live on my own, ( possibly as soon as i turn 18 ) but i dont want to do that untill i get my self a decent car.

About the insurance, Is that like a once off fee of $4100 for general insurance stuff, or are you talking about a every year kind of a thing?

i took in mind the other things, like general maintanence and fuel costs, This is why im hoping to either get into studying again or get a job, its been pretty hard finding a job because of me dropping out at year 10, every job i seen requires 4 years + experience etc.etc.

about the whole turbo thing, i got told that theres new laws coming soon. Something about if your a p plater you cant have a turbo ?. Thats pretty dissapointing, i dont see the point of it. If they do that they should at least have some way of letting certain p platers be excluded from this, maybe a test to see how much of a reliable driver we are or something like that.

i guess they dont trust a 17yo with a fast car anymore, thanks to retard drivers who smash up there cars and kill a bunch of people at the same time.

anyways, Looking at all these sites i guess i wont be able to import anything untill i get more cash, Im hopinh to scope out a few auctions to see if any s13's pop up, so i dont have to bother importing one.

So does anyone know what ill be looking at paying for an s13, with no mods, bassically stock, and already here in australia ?

insurance is once a yr thing, goes down each yr with ur no claim bonus rating though

new laws for p platers being introduced in NSW soon, dunno about over here though.

i belive 100% that buying a car second hand from somewhere the clock will be turned back, i doubt there is any place that doesnt alter it.

Btw, im looking for a manual, will that add alot to the price if its not auto ?

the turbo law about p's is yet to be set in stone and if it happens like over-east p's with turbo cars will be allowed to drive them (it is apart of the law government said they didnt want to make the young people loses money by having to sell there car etc etc)

go to tafe do a the highest course u can do and the change u will get a job is very high, i have been told that i can get job offeres half way through my 1st yr and many people have done that and fnish the course part-time

you will find that auto is mostly always cheaper manual does push the price up abit but then again it depends on the car itself

some not soo clean s13 in 5spd will sell for around 5k in japan as cleaner auto would sell for that same price (cleaner 5spd mosts time are abit higher 7/8k)

im always looking at cost of imports cars etc, and this is wat i have found

dude if you want a job apply at where i work. I do directory assistance crap job but easy money. full time ur looking at about $28000 a yr just for sitting on a computer and talking to dumb a$$es all day. Plus u get monthly bonuses
