hi guys. i'm considering whether to sell my 93 r33 gtst line and get an 02 integra and i was hoping for some input (be they positive or negative). here are the reasons for wanting to switch.

1) fuel con. on the line is killing me. i'm doing 16l per 100 km and ive read tt the stock integra runs at 9l per 100km. true?

2) servicing costs. the car is really showing is age n i fear its gona get more expensive to maintain it. does anyone know much it costs to service an integra?

i'd appreciate any caveats or pros you guys might have to add. thx guys!

i was looking at buying a DC2R before i got my line, i thought it would be a nice cruisy but quick car. glad i didnt buy one now.

they are very light and bounce all over the road, they are noisy as, and its not good noise, the interior is fairly small, and the overall car is very small.

fuel economy is not crash hot either, when uve got the boot in anyway.

im very happy that i bought my 33, its nice and big, with a decent interior and great power, and also great fun to drive, being RWD and all.

each to their own, just a few things i picked up from test driving them.

I dont see someone asking about an R34 GT-T and then someone saying how they are glad they didnt buy thier grandmas R30 wagon because it smelt of mothballs, so lets keep the discussion on the cars harumomo is interested in :P

I own an 03 DC5 luxury model.

I'm pretty fussy when it comes to cars and personally, I dont like it... however everything is very modern and ergonomic. Fuel economy is excellent. I get around 7 to 8 l/100km For what it is, is feels very refined. It's nice and easy to drive, and as slow as it is its.. it is still entertaining to wind out. great hatch space, very practical.. horrific turning circle (truely horrific).

If it were my 30K and I was doing it again, I'd buy an S15. I'm still young and I need something alot more hardcore (yet modern) to get my jollies from. The integra doesnt cut it.

Drive it and see for yourself :)

from what ive seen and been in a friends dc2, i cant compare it to a 33, size and control. very different at all angles, and if you used to driving the 33 now, then stick with something close to it, unlike a dramatic change like going to a more wobley car with less power.

My advice....stick with your car and save for a newer model or even a GT-R...(you can if you try). Or better yet, get a S13 N/a which wont drain your pocket as much, and drive that for a year or two till you can afford the car your looking for in future. But still i think youd be better off with your current 33! =]

I've had the integra before and one thing i dont like abt it is that they are fairly noisy.

Becos of the revvy engine, low torque and short gearing, at motorway speeds you're cruising at abt 3500rpm, which makes for alot more noise than normal cars. Plus becos its a hatch u will get more noise intrusion from the boot area, in the end, u will find that you have to turn up your stereo alot louder than other cars just to listen, thats my biggest quibble.

In terms of everyday drivability i dont like the fact that i have to row through the gears so much becos of the lack of torque, sure the shifts are brilliant, but when u do it everyday through start stop traffic, it dosent become so fun anymore.

Interior wise they are pretty good and the ergonomics are great, but overall, for someting so expensive, there are alot of other cars that do just as well if not better.

1)sound like something isnt working properly 02 sensor or closed loop control etc as my 500hp gtr cruise can still get something like 11lt/100kms or there abouts

are you interested in the type R or just the lux?

the luxury one is a good cruiser, the type R (from what i heard) is a harsh ride as its a drivers car

for me, i'd rather keeping the r33 gtst and modding it or maybe upgrade to a r33 gtr or r34 gtt (which i have)

however, a DC5/R is a great car none the less

test drive the integra (ive always liked them but never been in a newer one - 02 model onwards) then see what you think of it, if you like it then why not exchange if you want something newer.

however, if you still want a turbo sports car then an s15 or r34 isnt out of the question...

no i didnt explain myself properly if i cruise buno to perth i will get ~11-12 litres per 100kms sorry

ie like abit over 1/4 tank (maybe 1/3)from buno to perth

does that sound about right (last trip back from hyperdrive it did anyway)

I have an R32 GT-R and a DC5R Honda Integra as a daily. You can't compare the DC2R to the DC5R. It's like comparing an R32 GT-R to an R33 GT-R. The new model is heavier, more comfortable, more spacious and at the right hands it's also faster but generally speaking the old one is more fun and it's easier, and more comfortable to find the limit with it.

My DC5R is such an easy car to drive. Easy to live with... you can fold the rear seats down and fit a full sized table in there. It's absolutely massive. A truck that can corner! It's OK on fuel in comparisson to a Skyline and it warms up before you hit the end of your street... so turn the key and just go. But is it worth the money? I am very unsure about that. If I had the option over again I'd get the DC2R over my DC5R.

thx you guys for the replies but i'm a lil lost here. what's a dc2r and a dc5r? im guessing they mean integras but which yr and model?

i'm actually looking at the stock 02/03 integra models for a compromise between a sporty looking car and a more fuel effiecient, 4 people mover. how much can i expect with regards to it's fuel consumption and servicing costs? also is the rear space adequate for people of average height? (175cm thereabts)

    • There are certain tasks, like replacing head gaskets, where it is very much best to already know what you are doing, and if you are not already an expert, then the next best thing is to have an expert around to help it get done. Little annoying checks and steps that are easy to forget or not interpret the results of properly, etc etc. It is hard to convey that to someone as a lesson prior to taking on a job, because there can be a whole list of "if you see this then it means that", or "if this is what you find then you will need to do these other 4 steps first". All the little bits of knowledge around sealant choice (ie, sealant at all? or no sealant? sealant only in certain parts of the gasket? sealant for this type of gasket but not that type of gasket? etc etc) cleanliness checks and methods, surface straightness and finish checks and methods, etc etc, all combine to mean that people who have done many of the same type of job will struggle less to get a good result than someone who hasn't done it before. I've been around this stuff since forever. But I will still consult with my expert(s) before taking on the big stuff with higher risk profile.
    • Well if I end up having to do the head gasket I will certainly find the necessary tools and instructions before beginning... Let's hope it won't come around.   Definitely. Depends on the job but I think "if you want it done right, do it yourself" applies almost every time
    • Can you at least move to a location without so many ladders, black cats and mirrors precariously propped up ready to be knocked down? Or buy yourself a 1 ton bulker bag of salt to drag around with you. Just, you know, sling it over your shoulder?
    • Meh, what's the worst that can happen? If is is supposed to have a washer, and: the spring retainer seals reasonably well on the surface, maybe just allowing a little bleed of oil out, and the spring does not coil bind when compressed that little extra bit, then the end result will be slightly higher relief pressure setpoint, and no other noticeable effects.
    • Weirdly I see a flat washer on aftermarket pumps but as you said it doesn't seem like new OEM pumps have it. EPC doesn't break out the regulator as a separate component either. I'm guessing if the pump came that way it's safe to use as-is.
