drifting doesnt need mods, the more mods the easyer it becomes to drift (my thread anywayz) for example to get a stocky r33 sideways (yes it is very possable and not just power-side) it is abit hard due to weight etc etc but if it had like a 400ps and a few sups mods i belived it would be soo much easyer.

drifting is more skill than anything i belived, if in the d1 a 175ps ae86 can out drift a 450ps s15, and a r34 4dr, soarer and chaser which all weight alot can also drift and place in the 10top what can i say.

ohh yeah turn wheels in slightly = camber

what does camber mean ?

and what about sway bars ? are they needed? i always thought the body would start to bend n stuff after lots of drifting without these bars, or am i wrong?

Static camber (as in camber while stationary) is the angle of the wheel to the ground. For example zero camber gives complete and even contact of the tyre with the ground so that it isn't biased on any particular side of the tyre and hence gives more traction.

People often talk up about negative camber so that it compensates for the turning forces in the car so that under heavy turning the car can be as close to zero camber as possible. Too much negative camber however and it will eat away at your tyres quicker than you can say F***, this is why most modded street cars go for about negative 1 degree of camber and race cars go for about negative 2-3 degrees.

Sway bars bars also known as anti-roll bars help the weight transition when cornering. If the bars didnt exist, if you turned really quickly all the weight of the car would move very quickly to one particular side of the car. Upgrading sway bars makes the car much stiffer and puts more even loads on both sides of the car during fast cornering. Also the particular stiffness can affect whether the car understeers or oversteers by nature. This is dependant on the different stiffness of the rear and front sway bars.

Wow nice answer man, so in other words get sway bars for better corning because the weight is distributed evenly ?

So the sway bars dont protect your car body from bendin? is it even possible for a car body to start bending or something after tonnes of drifting ? like say over a couple years of drifting every now n then.

The car will probably start bending after time but I imagine (not quite 100%) the sway bar would bend before any other damage would be done. A stiffer sway means that when a car is cornering, more force is distributed onto the inside wheel rather than dumping it all on the outside tyre. I imagine that having stiffer sway bars elimanates the need for going out and spending heaps on really stiff drift coilovers to get basically the same result. That way the body wont flex as much and softer springs can be used for day to day driving. However if you avoid using coilovers completely you start to worry about centre of gravity etc. etc.

  • 2 weeks later...

well as for the next events, have a looksie here...

C-Red are organising a barbagallo day..

http://www.driveline.net.au/news.php?news_id=36

Tenagah motorsports are also organising a day in april down at collie.

Details on that event can be found here http://www.driveline.net.au/eventDetails.p...hp?event_id=177

c-red is aimed at mainly pro's. its only for 3 hours on a friday night so they dont wanna have to stop all the time to dig pplz out of the sand. which is fair enough.

collie would be the good idea :P

there are lots of places to street drift.. but it shouldnt be done... unless u like to bend over and take it whilst u see ur car leave on a trailer :)

well the training day is april.. so by then it will be fine.. not sure if anything will be planned sooner.

and AHG is out for drift... they do hold MC days there on the skid pans but thats about all..

Hell yeah, someone should make one on a property out of the metro. I would be going there all the time. Well when you think about it. Theres basically nowhere you can take your car to go drifting (legally) or to go and do burnouts other than the drags and the occassional drift meeting at some tracks. I would be spending a bit of time there.

    • Update time!  The JZX110 had some maintenance needing to be done, so a lot of the seals with replaced to fix some oil leaks. Also used this opportunity to whack on a front mount that I'd bought some time ago.  I also finally got the rear lip painted and fitted.  I then got the exhaust done. It's just a catback for now. Custom made 3" stainless with a turn down. I could have a tip coming out, but it will require cutting the rear lip and possibly the bumper itself. So far I do like and it's made the car a little more zippy.  Close out with some nice pictures of the cars and a sneak peek of what's next.

    • Just something I found searching for more info on Emotion R, apparently the ECR33 Skyline GTS25t was either originally black, or there were two of them, the black one being the original demo car, then building a white one which was part of the 1997-onwards (to at least 2008!) Cockpit Tatebayashi Tokyo Auto Salon booth demo cars. It appears that Emotion R closed down in 2008 and was declared bankrupt in 2010: http://bank-db.com/hasan/208365. Scan of a magazine with the black R33 from 1996: Wayback machine archived page from May, 2000: https://web.archive.org/web/20000529061027/http://www.emotion-r.co.jp/skyline.html Option magazine with a few photos from the Cockpit Tatebayashi booth at the Auto Salon from various years: 2002: http://www.jdm-option.com/photo/index.php?action=item&category_id=154&image_id=3507 2003: http://www.jdm-option.com/photo/index.php?action=item&category_id=137&image_id=3033 2005: http://www.jdm-option.com/photo/index.php?action=item&category_id=116&image_id=1831 In 2008 Cusco website mentions that the Cockpit Tatebayashi ECR33 was displayed at that year's Tokyo Auto Salon: https://www.cusco.co.jp/event/2008/12/post_735.html As of 2021 it appears that the ECR33 demo car ended up being exported to Florida, USA: https://rmcmiami.com/inventory/1996-nissan-skyline-r33-cockpit-tatebayashi-demo-car-big-te06-turbo-endless-brakes-lsd-450hp/ And finally here's Google streetview of the Emorion R garage in 2023 which is amazingly not only still there, but the showroom is still full of various parts in stock and funishings, etc.: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ttyEAZdZLyzermyT9 Apologies for nerding out a bit. I used to love doing this 20 years ago on SAU and got a bit nostalgic for a moment... 😅
