TV and GPS in new import

Hi gents,

I have recently bought an R33 GTS25T which has a TV and GPS system in it. I was wondering if anyone has had these installed in their cars from the factory, and knows where to go to have these systems converted to Aust frequencies, etc. Any advice would be great.

Sadly the GPS won't work and converted over to Aust spec cause it's a totally different system. From what I know, no one has converted over the TV either, although the screen will be NTSC so just keep that in mind if you get an add-on player/tuner etc..

I ended up ripping all the GPS crap out of my car and have bought a MPEG4/MP3 player to hook up to the screen. Works well. One day if I get really keen I'll get an add-on tuner so i can watch TV as well... But at the moment I'm not that keen

I had a DVD/GPS in my 34 when I bought it and I ended up just ripping it out and selling coz it wasn't worth the hassel of trying to make it work. I would have kept it if I could have gotten the GPS to work tho

what are the factory units like? i mean, well, my car came with a tv screen about 4 or 5inch, with numerous buttoms down either side of it. its a panisonic cq-500d (from memory, its at my mates house at the moment), and i couldnt find anything about it on the net. it wasnt hooked up when we pulled it out, it looked like an aftermarket unti was in it and they just screwed this old one back in when selling the car.

does this sound like the a factory unit you may have? my car looks like it has a few extra gadgets about that look to perhaps be gps...

Toyota Soarer sites have some really usefull information about this because the V8 models come with TV/GPS as standard and this is one of the most FAQ's

the bottom line most gave was that it is possible to convert the TV and GPS but the amount of money this takes makes it redundant................you could get an aftermarket system for a similar price.
