The dreaded news we were all waiting for arrived this afternoon 7/2/05. The Federal Government changes to the 15 year old import rule have been announced and unfortunately they aren't what most of us wanted to here.

In a nutshell they read:

*Any vehicle built before 1/1/89 is still eligible to be imported under the new rules

*Any vehicle built after this date but already purchased as at 7/2/05 is eligible to be imported until 1/1/06.(existing purchases have not been affected)

HOWEVER

*Any vehicle purchased to be imported under the new rules must satisfy the SEVS criteria to first be eligible and be complied in a RAWS workshop according to the applicable ADR's at the time of manufacture.

The exact implications of this ruling and how it will affect the actual compliance process is not confirmed yet, however it will no doubt increase the cost and decrease eligibility of cars.

Now R32 compliance will be viable since the "shitter" 15 year old's cant freely come in and later models are cheaper than what people have been paying for 89's so it wont be that bad compliance will be more but car should be cheaper and you get a better car.

I have been looking for a 92/93 test car but was put on hold till ruling came out so I know what they cost and yes I know they have to be standard.
