Hi there,

My view is that it is a matter of saving money using the ecu that comes with the car...

Buying a PFC means I would also have to buy AFM's which will escalate the costs. However I have been seeking information and experience using the Djetro unit eg, tuning cost differences, driveability differences using MAP, Datalogit software support for Djetro...

unless you want more than 540rwhp it will cost you $300 for two rb20/25 afms and if you are looking at more hp you should not be trying to cut cost as it will bite you in the arse later

afms in my opinion for a street gtr is a most (Drag car / track maybe not)

if you go MAP the fuel bill will kill you and will easily pay for the afms many times over

only my opinion:cheers:

No offence, but that's a pretty narrow way to compare MAP against MAF dude

If he's looking at more than 540hp, even anywhere lower, there are so many more pro's and con's for both than just fuel conservation ...

Last time Aidwin Micko and i went on to new norcia the only GTR of the three at the time that was fitted with a MAP sensor had by far the best economy just make sure its tuned right and closed loop is set right.Aidwin has a MAP setup now and its good on fuel.

MAF is a lot easyer to tune on a 6 Throttle body GTR tho.

I dont post much on these forums anymore, but i've used a few workshops to get the work done on my car. Most recently i have used hyperdrive and found their service, advice and workshop to be the best. Their workshop is clean and organised, their knowledge excellent and their manner friendly. Some workshops i have walked into i have almost broken my neck tripping over the engine half pulled apart, the gearbox lieing in the way or the bit of oil spilt that hasnt been mopped up yet.

I had my car built and tuned at SST, I got my bits and pieces from Wheelspin and Steve Lee would service my car next door at Performanz. Now with Steve Lee, Les and Paul working together at Wheelspin in Welshpool, and SST living on at CMP its even more convenient.

Also, I used to take my car to XSpeed and I found them very good too.

I just booked the skyline that Im interested in buying in for a check over at Hyperdrive next friday, Its only $180 and from what Ken said on the phone it seems that they do alot more than an RAC check and that would have cost me over $250.

Well I thought I would follow up on my tuning experience at Speedworks.. My R32 GTR was tuned by AJ. With me being from Karratha, the car was tuned and then backed off a little to allow for some safety factor and headroom as Karratha is not really the perfect environment for performance engines..

I have a printout for 416.9awhp, and the car put down 2 consecutive 420hp runs, the car was hten backed off as mentioned above. Not having driven the car yet at all, I can not comment on the tune, but will be able to feedback on this once the car gets delivered to me...

nice yorik, speedworks dyno is a hub dyno yes? just a word to the wise that a hub dyno figure isnt compariable to a wheel dyno unfortunately but they are are a great tuning tool as a yard stitch (before and after etc) hope all goes well for you and your ride

I think you'll find it is compareable to roller dynos, usually on cars that are making reasonable power 2-300ish the figures are usually 10ish or so hp different from the hub to a dyno dynamics unit..

where you will see big differences is big hp cars which see wheel spin on roller dynos, when you eliminate the wheel spin factor you can see very big power differences, also incorrectly tied down cars, under inflated tyres etc can also make a roller dyno figure change...

as can having a couple of fat blokes sitting in the boot to stop it wheel spinning..

Hub vs roller dyno's.

From what I've seen it depends. I've seen some reasonable horsepower differences in the two. Information from the US and the UK seems to be the same. Loses due to friction are a plain and obvious difference. There is no getting around the fact that increasing horsepower increases this loss, even when tied down well.

Like someone else said it doesn't matter anyway it's just a tuning tool. I think the hub dyno's are great being sort of portable.

Comparable or not, the car still exceeded my expectations, especially considering the tune was done for Premium Unleaded only as I can't get any better fuel up here..

In terms of comparisons between Rollers and Hub dyno's the figures are going to be close, close enough that the sorts of differences you are looking at you wouldn't notice on the street. Say 10hp on a 400hp car..

Either way, AJ was quite good, listened to my plans for the car, my situation in terms of weather and use of the car (limited use, basically a once or twice a week toy) and tuned the car accordingly, he was also very free with advice and knowledge to my questions. I have no other experiences in Perth to compare this with, but I am assuming that most reputable places would be the same.

My last car was tuned by Lumpy when he was at C-Red, and I was quite impressed with that tune, although I wasn't present for the tune, nor did I get to speak to him prior to the tune. My car survived some sever thrashing in the less then favourable Pilbara conditions and ran prefectly post install of my Tomei PONCAM's still holding good AFR's and everything running smoothly. BTW, that was a 180SX started off with 272rwhp and est 300 after cams (difference measured with GTech Pro Comp downloadable on road dyno. )

Listen here Parkerbitch, I only know of a couple of cars that have back to backed our dyno against the hub machine and the results were drastically different. Given the 'shoot-out' method of measurement that we follow, the losses present were not related to wheelspin or inconsistent tie-on procedure in the comparison cases. 2-300hp isnt reasonable power, unless you have a WRX.

People often compare the consistency of results with the Shoot-out accredited machines, because it is a valid comparision, and a proven one at that, but the debate of a chassis dyno versus a hub mount box of oil is a little bit semantic. Remember power to the hubs isnt power at the treads! I do not know if the hub dyno operators share a code of practice and uniform method of operation to guarantee consistancy with other machines of the same make, but trying to compare one to the other is the same as comparing either of them to engine dyno's.

The chassis dyno is one of the most relevent measures of power delivery to the ground as it takes into account all factors effecting what makes the car move.

Ignoring politics etc, either device is a capable tuning weapon, each with benefits for and against and not really what this thread was for.

hyperdrive is the go in perth :P

lumpy u r getting grumpy in your old age haha, u gotta treat customers with respect, haha jk, u done a great job on all my cars and he even has done work on them at my own house saving me getting the car to the shop :(

thats only for me i presume so dont go asking for a home service or something from glen and ken :D

just a note, shops and certain unnamed people deserve to be in jail, bloody greedy theiving arseholes around, and also PSI Performance, dont get me started please... i got the good work of brett a few years ago and he pulled my CAS apart with a bloody hammer and chisel in the vice like a butcher, and the autronics ecu wiring was totally arse around and coils were wired in wrong order, so i wouldnt trust him with a bloody datsun 180b.

pm me if people want info on dodgy dickheads in perth :)

arh well enough whinging

cheers :)

who can or who will?

as for who can any tuner pretty much can as their simplicity allows even the most futile of tuners to program them

just expect it to take some time to get certain aspects correct such as coldstart etc

as for who will... well the list narrows rapidly...

due to the interesting political nature of the car scene several ppl wont touch it with a 10 foot pole

some tuners hate the ecu itself and refuse to waste thier time on it

your pretty narrow in your choices, and with rumours that one of the few ppl that will do it will be without workshop soon may mean wolf is totally out of support in wa very soon

as for price

different shops charge differing prices

if you know someone you can pay as low as 50 bucks an hour

i believe speedworks now charge 200 an hour?

i know hyperdrive and xspeed will be less then that

do the ring around

pray beg etc

see how you go

p.s i pray no one takes anything that ive said personally im just trying to relate this in a real world sense for someone who needs help

nothing is meant to stir or cause shit. if someone chooses to view it that way then sorry but sucks to be you.

    • Yes...but look at the numbers. There is a tiny tiny fraction of the number of Joules available, compared to what is used/needed. Just because things are "possible" doesn't make them meaningful.
    • Thanks for taking the time to post that ! If anything changes or happens please do update us.
    • Somehow Vertimass/Oak Ridge National Labs has figured out a catalyst that can convert ethanol into C9-C10 hydrocarbons in basically a single step without ending up with a bunch of ethylene or similar waste products: https://patents.google.com/patent/WO2023224867A1/en I still don't think anything like this will keep us from needing to transition to EVs regardless along with all kinds of other electrification, but things like this will go a long way towards alleviating the problem of how to electrify things like planes. Renewable diesel is seemingly an easier problem as well, Chevron is already running refineries for the stuff and the primary feedstock is tallow and other waste fats from agriculture.
    • Ok so I have sorted everything with my uniclutch and  i can offer up a bit of feedback and some things that might help others.    I found problems with factory damper line. Weird shit and had trouble with peddle adjustment    I used this https://au.gktech.com/products/r33-gts-t-skyline-braided-clutch-line?_pos=2&_sid=22b01b9b9&_ss=r Also when adjusting peddle leave a bit of play. You can get into a over stroke condition easy.. Make sure you can push the slave forward after adjusting to confirm fluid can return to master then you will need to pump it up heaps…..not sure why but that’s how it is.    last thing the splined adapter is machined perfectly. If your input shaft is old like mine was I would put a bit of valve grinding paste on it and stroke it like a 15 year old. Just to give it a tad more clearance and to better match it to the spline.    reason is on a near flat shift I have had situation where the peddle returns a millisecond after you lift from the clutch. No slip or anything but I reckon this is due to tolerance on the spline being way tighter than stock clutch and binding for a sec. I think this will go away but also my spline was old. Box is old so I guess I should have checked better. It’s a super neat fit.    it feels light as and holds awesome without any noise
