mac30
Hey guys, Just saw a performance video recently (think named something like performane series 6) and on the last footage it mentioned Sub Zero got a GTST that can do 10s and it cost $15000 for such a setup. The video didnt go into any great detail so just wondering if anyone knows any info on it considering GTRs needs to spend twice the amount to get the same figures. Cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/6398-10-sec-gtst/ Share on other sites
JimX
I don't know the specifics, but keep in mind that a GTR has almost 200kg more weight to push around which probably accounts for most of the price difference. kik-ass
Vaguely remember reading about it in a zoom mag, I think. Had an RB30 bottom end and custom twin turbo setup. Ran into the tens on its first meet Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/6398-10-sec-gtst/#findComment-96081 Share on other sites

Revhead
Yep, actually there are two. One is 40RCD, which was a 2.5 litre single turbo, and I can't remember the plates on the other car, but it was/is 3.0 litre and twin turbo. The twin turbo one made more power on less boost but I believe it's yet to better 40RCD's time. 40RCD was owned by a guy named Dave Chapman. At the time the car ran a best of 10.69@126mph iirc. I believe the box was a rebuilt Trimatic, same as they use in the 9 sec VL Turbos. It did NOT have a 3 litre bottom end and twin turbos, it was a rebuilt/balanced RB25DET bottom end with forgies, still had RB25 head etc too. The car was sold and now has TRY09 plates. I think it's run something like a 10.04 ??? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/6398-10-sec-gtst/#findComment-96742 Share on other sites

2rismo
it is an awesomely tough car with (at the time serious perf 6 was made) very little (internal) engine work. the auto box is part of this cars magic... very worthwhile... does awesome burnouts and power drifting and in the dvd versions bonus thingo's. almost takes out the director on a corner that he over cooks.. Guest MFX_R33
Mac 30. It does cost alot more to get a GTR to do those sort of times, but remember most of those GTR's were running street tyres and pump fuel. It is common knowledge that it is easier to get a rear wheel drive to do quick times on the track than 4 wheel. RWD cars with slicks don't have the trouble with traction that they do on the street so 4WD becomes a hinderence, adding weight and taking power. Jeff. JimX
MFX_R33, the 4WD system of the GTR doesn't kick in until the rear loses traction, so the only disadvantage it should have is the extra weight. Don't think for a second that the stock 4WD setup keeps it in RWD for anything like a whole run. Steve
2rismo, do you know what sort of internal work had been done, and how reliable it was - just wondering as I have heard so many conflicts on what the stock internals can handle (most seem to point to the pistons in the first intance as the weak link). The main thing I am interested in is proven reliable horsepower Thanks for any help Steve Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/6398-10-sec-gtst/#findComment-99371 Share on other sites
whatsisname
I was @ Willowbank on the 23rd (Sat' T&T session) & watched TYR09 run a 9.9 @ 144mph. The amazing thing about this car is it ran the 9.9 @ 144 with the back end all over the track for @ least a 1/3 of it  If it can hook up it'll go much quicker! Edit - The engine in TRY09 is far from the stock RB25DET! It's a seriously modified RB26DETT (RB30 bottom end perhaps?) & it uses N2O. Revhead
144mph, really?? That's pretty impressive, a RWD car with that kind of terminal speed should be good for mid-low nines. Good luck to the guys. On another note, did anyone see the LJ (or LC?) torana with the twin turbo 427 Chev? Not a Skyline I know, but I liked it a lot Ran 7.8 something @ 177mph, and I notice it had number plates! Orright, imagine rocking up beside someone at the lights with that thing ... traction issues aside Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/6398-10-sec-gtst/#findComment-102824 Share on other sites
hungry6
yes try09 runs a rb26 with twins xtr turbos and has a built rb38 bottom end and it was also confiscated last saturday night, doing the normal stuff , he was just at the wrong place at the wrong time and doing the wrong speed, hell everyone else just hit the loud peddal, 20 or so cars at WOT what a scene Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/6398-10-sec-gtst/#findComment-102827 Share on other sites
whatsisname
I was talking to a few of the guys that were there @ WB with TRY09, they mentioned heading out after the meet to do the "normal stuff". Was it still running the slicks on the street? How long is it gone for? Yep Craig Thompson's Orange TTV8 Torrie ran a best (first pass of the night!) of 7.88 @ 177mph! This thing is a beast  2 x TA45 Garrett's (I think?) I'd like to see it hit the street in the trim it ran @ WB though (not likely!). Did anyone see it get waaaaay out of shape on the 2nd pass burnout!? Nearly lost it! TRY8S
Hey guys i just thought i'd clear a few things up about the engine from the rb 30 bottom end we have a custom peterson dry sump which has been the best investment so far it got a standard crank, argo rods with arp rod bolts, wiesco pistons, the head is a rb 26 which has been ported & polished with a arp stud kit, it has hks step 2 cams with toda cam gears, a subzero exhaust manafold, the turbo is a TA45 from XTR (gcg turbos) a subzero wastegate, a subzero intercooler, a teil bov (same 1 used by indy cars), a subzero inlet plenium with a 100mm throdle body, 6 1000cc rochester injectors on a subzero fuel rail & 2 850 bosch fuel pumps & 1 650 for the NOS, a subzero billet flywheel (i nearly blew in my pants when i seen it what can't ivan make) a 2 speed powerglide with a tce 4500 stall converter & transbrake, the diff is a 200sx nismo locker diff the gears 4.1s.At the track we use a wet NOS system with 100hp pill 1 bar of boost & c16 fuel our best time to date is a 9.81 at 142mph with fresh m/t 8.5in slicks but they have gone into retirement now to make way for the 10in slicks & where going to try solid bars instead of suspension in the rear end & if everything goes to plan we will wick the boost up to 2bar & should run a mid to low 9sec pass, i will keep everyone posted. p.s. got the car back in 1 piece thankcargod BRETT.
