Hey Guys,

Can anyone suggest any good places in Sydney where I could buy a helmet relatively cheaply? I was hoping for less than $200 (the cheaper, the better at the moment), although I don't know if it's possible to get them that cheap.

I want to take my car for another run at WSID in the next few weeks (and track days in future), but I don't have access to a helmet anymore...so it's about time i bought my own anyway.

Any help would be great - thanks.

if you were going mountainering would you buy cheap rope ( "the cheaper the better")

think about it

Thanks for the analogy.

Whilst I understand the point you're making, your comparison of helmets to mountaineering ropes is slightly misleading.

All racing helmets in Australia are required to be certified by Standards Australia meaning that they adhere to particular quality and safety levels, regardless of price. You're generally not allowed to race without having a Standards Australia certified helmet, whereas I'm guessing you could use any bloody rope you want when mountaineering. From my buying experience, it would appear in most cases that the additional price is more associated with additional features and increased comfort level as opposed to greatly increased safety.

For the record, I ended up getting a full face helmet from Motorcycle Accessories Warehouse, Parramatta for $120.

I ended up getting $80 open face from the same place. I tried the full face though and I thought it was a bit too full on. The dude at the counter daid I'll be crazy to get full face for car racing. So now I am a proud owner of THH mat black open face. Makes me look even more dorky than normal :)

Just think of 30+ Degree heat on the track with no aircon and full face helmet. Sweatilicious

EDIT: Silly me, didnt realise this was in the drag section of the forum and you also said in your first post about doing WSID. My point is still valid for track though.

ahh careful with the open face helmets. Some track day organisers (Motoconcepts for one) won't let you use them

Personally I would take it back and get a full face one, save yourself the possible disappointment on day.

they are farking hot tho! Try a couple of different brands to see what fits best, they are totally different shapes inside
