traction...or rather lack of it

just spent some $$$ and now i am having traciton problems thru 1st and 2nd gear, i've still got the stocko rims on it and don't have the money for a new set of wide 18's or sumthin right now, is there another way i can get my rims wider so they can fit bigger tyres and get me more traction ???

um how do u intend on making the rims "wider" is this on a 33 gts-t, 32 what car ??? if so what width are they running now cause you may be able to get a little wider depending on whats on their at the moment. alsohavign larger wheels eg 18's arnt going to help you get traction get wider tyres

yeah buy new rims. other than that sounds like your tyres have had it so go out and buy some decent new ones for better traction.

What did you spend the $$$ on? If it was for pizza for dinner, then the $$$ and the lack of traction would be totally unrelated.

What have you got? What have you done to it? With this information, we might be able to give a reasonable solution to your problem. But I would have to suggest that a new set of tyres is in order, given that the tyres are the point of contact with the road, where the rotational motion of the engine is transferred into forward motion of the car.

Also looking into getting your rear end properly aligned will certainly help things.

Actually, larger wheels can help you gain traction in some circumstances as you have a larger footprint on the road.

i.e a 14inch with 225s vs an 18inch with 225s, the 18 will have more tyre in contact with the road.

I'd highly recommend getting some 'pineapples' fitted if you are struggling for cash right now.
