No offence to any one BUT.......

Recommended Posts

ok i relise this post is going to cause some arguments between members and im sure alot of you are going to think im tring to stir trouble but im not. so here goes.

This new membership business, im all for it but i do not think that it is fair to members who live in places such as Geelong, Ballarat, Wodonga and other country areas that are to far away to make the meetings at Whitehorse Tavern to have to pay for a membership that they are not going to recieve full benifits from. Dont get me wrong im sure you have a great night at these meetings but i am not going to drive an hour and half to sit and have a few drinks for a couple of hours and then drive an hour and half back so that i can get my 50 dollars worth of membership.

For example the Great Ocen Road cruise is on this weekend and it is a members only cruise. well thats fine if you live in Wodonga and probably werent going to come anyway but for people who live in Geelong this event is a must as it is 5 minutes from where we live BUT im not aloud to attend cause im not a paid member. i think this is rediculous. i was at last years GOR cruise and it was really good. Not just for the drive but to meet other members that i probably wouldnt meet because i cant make the cruises in the Dandenongs and that side of Melbourne.

If you want money then just ask for it at the event. its simple dont post the directions just post the first meet point and charge 10 or 15 dollars for the map on the day for people who dont have full memberships.

I know some of you are probably thinking "your just a tight arse mate, just pay the 50 dollars" but this has nothing to do with money, it has to do with value for money. you dont buy a GTR skyline and be happy if it goes as hard as a VB commodore do you!

well thats my 2 cents worth i apologize again if this offends anyone but its just my opinion.

For example the Great Ocen Road cruise is on this weekend

Its actually on the 26th.

Aren't you from geelong? we should meet up just before the cruise on the highway and wait for them to drive by...cause i aint going to the first meet point in melb.

Good point, but as far as i know, a large part of the fee is for Cams affiliation etc.... So it doesn't matter exactly where you live for that. I agree it kinda sucks that most of the meets/cruises are based for east side of the city people... i'm not really sure what can be done..

Ok... to cover again for everyone.

Most of your $50 goes towards CAMS affiliation. Which entitles guys to get CAMS licenses.

Also what we get with CAMS affiliation is insurance for our cruises/events

Why do we need insurance?

Because as an official club we dont want the cruise organisers (me/snowie etc) to be sued if something goes wrong on a cruise that we have organised.

While most of you can sit around and say "i wouldnt do that" sadly thats not the case.

And i cant afford to be sued should something go wrong on a cruise. Nor any other member

With the CAMS insurance we get $1mil (or is it $10mil) in public liability insurance which should be enough one would think.

Whats left over from your membership...

1) You membership also entitles you to cheaper merchandise, access to our sponsors (which are coming on board shortly)

2) Access to members forum, a lanyard (which does cost money to make), newsletter

3) Free BBQ's from time to time etc.

4) SAU-Vic subsidises some of the cost if you wanted to enter your car in AutoSalon etc

There is a large list but they are some of the points.

The General meetings jsut arent for members either. thats why they are publically posted so anyone can attend and see what we are about.

We have a lot of people that are not Melb centrally based that are members.

When $50 is less than a tank of fuel these days, doesnt seem that costly

Any more questions post em up. Im happy to answer anything :P

Hope i've covered it for you Lee.

This thread is to remain sh|tfight clean. After last times effort...

i live in albury/ballarat, not currently a member but will be soon enough for the reason of track days etc

as for this GOR cruise i was gonna go with sau but now im not.

not for the reason its gonna cost me extra $$ but the fact that me and my mrs actually wanna do a few days along it and the grampians aswell

i agree that the meetings can be hard to get to for people who live far away like me, but im sure that being a member entitles u to the members only section where im sure meeting mintues have been posted anyway

im sure there are lots of other reasons to join up aswell

SORRY TO SAY

As Ash has stated, we are now an official club and the members of the committee do not wish to be sued should something unfortunately happen.

If non-members show up, and wish not to pay the membership fee ($70 for the first year and $50p/a then on) they will be asked to leave.

If they refuse to leave, the committee will announce the people responsible for CANCELING the cruise. This has already been discussed and will be done.

I for one can not afford to be sued for other people’s mistakes and now members (and the club) have insurance to cover us for such an occurrence.

SO, please by all means come to the meeting point, but have your membership money ready :P. Ash also stated that steps are in process to get great discounts from various retailers. Over time this will easily offset the price of membership.

:P

Alan

By cancellling the cruise, the committtee officially withdraws its support, and hence insurance cover, for the event.

Living in Geelong, it is easy for you to cruise the GOR anytime you like - do you hear us complaining that you have that advantage?

Being a member of the club is not just about coming to meetings. There are other advantages, as has been mentioned previously - eg supplier discounts, discounted clothing, etc. And if the club decides to start producing a magazine, then you have access to the information that might be found therein.

NDSOC - my other club - has members in Queensland. And it looks like we might be starting a Tassie chapter. Those people don't get to come to monthly meetings either, but they don't join for the monthly meetings, they join for the camaraderie you get by being a member of a club.

If you don't want to spend $1 per week, then don't. But don't winge about it either.

Well i live in the west, and i think Al and R31 Nismoid do too?? I do notice that most of the cruises and meets are in the east, but maybe its cos there are alot more members in the East, if we had roughly the same amount of people spread all around Victoria im sure in the future SAU favouring the East will slowly deminish.

Thats my 2cents.

Do we have to come to a meet to join or can we do it another way, as i want to become a member but cant make it for a cruise for awhile.

Cheers

As blind_elk has stated.

I for one would turn back, it really doesn't bother me. If the committee leaves, the cruise will then no longer have club support and insurance. So if something does happens people can sue you :P.

If you want to be a tight-arse and spoil the event for everyone else, well i can not stop that, but other actions can also be taken.

    • Yes...but look at the numbers. There is a tiny tiny fraction of the number of Joules available, compared to what is used/needed. Just because things are "possible" doesn't make them meaningful.
    • Thanks for taking the time to post that ! If anything changes or happens please do update us.
    • Somehow Vertimass/Oak Ridge National Labs has figured out a catalyst that can convert ethanol into C9-C10 hydrocarbons in basically a single step without ending up with a bunch of ethylene or similar waste products: https://patents.google.com/patent/WO2023224867A1/en I still don't think anything like this will keep us from needing to transition to EVs regardless along with all kinds of other electrification, but things like this will go a long way towards alleviating the problem of how to electrify things like planes. Renewable diesel is seemingly an easier problem as well, Chevron is already running refineries for the stuff and the primary feedstock is tallow and other waste fats from agriculture.
    • Ok so I have sorted everything with my uniclutch and  i can offer up a bit of feedback and some things that might help others.    I found problems with factory damper line. Weird shit and had trouble with peddle adjustment    I used this https://au.gktech.com/products/r33-gts-t-skyline-braided-clutch-line?_pos=2&_sid=22b01b9b9&_ss=r Also when adjusting peddle leave a bit of play. You can get into a over stroke condition easy.. Make sure you can push the slave forward after adjusting to confirm fluid can return to master then you will need to pump it up heaps…..not sure why but that’s how it is.    last thing the splined adapter is machined perfectly. If your input shaft is old like mine was I would put a bit of valve grinding paste on it and stroke it like a 15 year old. Just to give it a tad more clearance and to better match it to the spline.    reason is on a near flat shift I have had situation where the peddle returns a millisecond after you lift from the clutch. No slip or anything but I reckon this is due to tolerance on the spline being way tighter than stock clutch and binding for a sec. I think this will go away but also my spline was old. Box is old so I guess I should have checked better. It’s a super neat fit.    it feels light as and holds awesome without any noise
