Crank Angle woes

I changed the water pump on my car this weekend and what mission it was. Everything went smoothly until the crank angle had to go back in.

The key on the end of the cam has broken off!!!

Eventhough I marked the position of it before I started but i don't know if the key was there to start with or not.

any ideas?
