I have searched high and low...

I have ordered the above part for my S2 R33. I how how to install as that is quite easy. But what do i do to set it up???? I mean what sort of setting should i run it on??? How much extra lift should i go for???

Anyone who has got one, how did you go tuning your car?? Any sugestions or any mistakes i may need to know about???

My experience has been that a good place to start is 4 degrees retarded, that's crankshaft degrees not camshaft degrees:cheers:

I have never installed one of these before. I have no doubt and not worrying about the installation its just the tuning. I have never played with an adjustable cam gear before. I understand all the terminoligy (im just a simple auto elec) but yeah are their instructions on setting and how do i measure 4 degres on a cam gear???

Very newbie questions from me tonight, but this motor cant be replaced like my last few. So i want to gather all the info before playing with it....

Thanks Sky Kid.

Sydney Kid i mean.... Dam it

I just want to be a newbie on this topic as i dont want pistons to introduce themselves to my valves.... LOL

Treat this topic as tho im a noob. Walk me threw it please... Thanks

Sorry, but you confused me with the first post........

I how how to install as that is quite easy.

I thought that meant you knew what you were doing and just needed a suggestion on where to set the exhaust camshaft timing as a starting position. Before you got it properly tuned, that is.

Sorry, but it has been a long weekend racing, I will try and get around to bashing out the basic instructions tomorrow. It would appear that you haven't looked at what brand of pulley you want to buy

how do i measure 4 degres on a cam gear
I haven't seen one for a number of years that hasn't got the degrees stamped on it. So choosing your brand would be a good place to start. I use the Jun pulleys myself, but the choice is quite large.

In the interim, I suggest you do a thorough search as there are hundreds of posts on this subject.

:D

I have purchased a HKS cam gear, hence the title....

Im just waiting for it to come. (about a week)

Will fit next week end hopefully....

Like i said i would apriciate a noob's version of setting up. Im not afraid to say i dont know what im doing when it comes to these units. I wanted one as i understand what they do, how they work. Just dont know how to setup....

Yes you can get a great result from any motor with a hair dryer bolted on the side....

It allows for a longer duration of the exhaust cam, RB25's have VVT so it is pointless putting one on the inlet side. But the exhaust could use a helping hand....

Thanks again Sydney Kid....

I have NEVER seen less than a 15 rwkw increase in average power from fitting an adjustable exhaust camshaft pulley to an RB25DET.:D

PS; although not with the RB25DET (Neo 260 and non Neo 256) Tomei Poncams, they seem to be perfectly timed out of the box.

Yeah. I knew it would not give me 300kw's.... LOL

I just want everthing.... This car is to remain as stock looking as possible....

I had a spare $250 IN AUTOBARN VOUCHERS... So i thought it would be a good idea...

Do yourself a favour and take it to a reputable mechanic with a dyno and get it done properly. It only cost me about $100 to have it fitted/tuned from memory and that way they can find out the best result and you get to see the increase in performance on a nice printed dyno chart. For a total of ~$250 I think it's some of the best value for money you can get in your modding.

Here are my results:

cam-ba-small.jpg

Check out my thread about the cam gear I put in my RB25DET Neo6.

Not a single kilowatt differnce. Not one. Curve didn't change, power spread didn't change, nothing.

Don't do it if you have an R34 GTT.

BASS OUT

Nice results....

I have a power curve thats a bit down at 120kph and then pulls back up again...

This is what i was trying to achieve.

I hope my power curve is as sussesful as yours.

Before anothone else says it. Im not in it for more power im trying to flatten out my power curve. I mean make it more consistant, even accross the board. Not up and down threw the revs...

Cheers

Yeah.... i just check out nengun and didnt see them in the cat...

At that price tho id be better off just picking up a set from work and wait a week. I was just thinking of maby getting some tommorrow. Ill just order them from work i guess (issue solved)

Change the base timing to suit?

You can't just slap them in and expect them to work well. I've heard of a few people who have had the same experience (r33's as well) and none of them changed anything else. On the other hand if you are ready to alter other parrameters then you'll see why they are good. If 4 degrees doesn't work then try 6, you can go as far as 8 - 10 either way pretty easy.

Got it today...

Looks awsome... I got the new style one. Silver and purple (not blue and purple) Looks very easy to adjust. Ill have to buy one for the inlet side just for the bling factor (not really)LOL.

Ill fit it and run a tech thread on it.... As per usual...

    • Hey all, not sure how active SAU is anymore but will ask away anyways. Just wanted to get some experience on the 2008 model GTR CBA model.  I've hit that age in my life (43) where I'm like fk it time to get my dream (midlife crisis) car. Looking at importing one in and seeing if these can be reliable if the main flaws are fixed up. Plan is to keep money aside to do the following straight off the bat to future proof it: * install a stage 1 rebuilt trans with all new bits and pieces.  * install a new Bellhousing from the later model GTRs. Or potentially an upgraded stronger version like MAD or ATR. Besides the above two things and typical maintenance items anything else you'd recommend doing.   Been speaking to a few people and the engine on these are very reliable apparently. But keen on the view of the community here. Hoping to find a nice grade 4.5 with low mileage in Grey. I'd go black but swirls too easy. Look forward to your responses and feedback. Cheers
    • Do Alan and Keith work on Skylines now? I remember buying stuff from them when I owned my Ralliart Lancer a few moons ago. Definitely genuine guys and be excellent if they dealt with the skyline platform as well.
    • Hey all, I'm Gaston from Sydney's West.  I was a member on here when I was a younger lad and owned a mint R33 GTS-T. Ended up selling it and getting married having kids (yadda yadda) we all know how the story goes. Now I'm back with the intention to get my midlife crisis (dream) car ... a R35 GTR.  You'll see me about asking questions and searching the forums. Good to be back and can't wait to get back an Import again.
    • I have to put something here in order to post the photos. From what I could gather there's more enthusiasm for modified cars now than there has been for years. There were probably more younger people there than older (me included lol) which was a good sign.  It did seem like the record least amount of representation of the 90's era hero cars on display though. Like maybe one or two examples of S-chassis Nissans, and maybe 3 or 4 R-chassis. By comparison there were a lot of Civics from that era but in all there were about 10 - 12 EG/EK Civic Type R.  Euro exotics are always there in large numbers, led by Liberty Walk...... say what you will about kids using markers to scribble on a Ferrari F40, it did seem like a stunt to infuriate Ferrari enthusiasts, or Ferrari itself. I wonder if there's something more to it. Either way LBWK have done some heinous things to a Lamborghini Miura this time. They should stop now.
    • Engines and drivelines are not war stoppers for me mate, busted arse bodies and un-obtainium parts and panels are though Both cheap Brumbies I looked at had trashed tubs and a fair bit of rust
