RB20DET 5100rpm stuttering problem..

RB20DET is having issues getting over 5100rpm after it has warmed up, it starts to stutter and refuses to go past... would this be coil packs? Spark plugs are brand new, fuel pump is good.

Coil packs could be the problem, or maybe the crank angle sensor.

even if you try to go over with light throttle or just on wide open throttle (WOT)?

If you suspect that it is your coil packs, you can do a temporary fix of taking them out and strapping the tops with Electrical tape.. Do it really tight and go for a spin.. it might be a cheap fix..

the coils tend to get hairline cracks from heat over time and some people have head success with doing the above.

well at least until the coil fully gave up and they definitely had to replace it.

anyway, it might not even be coil problems.

Yup every gear, even with light throttle.

Timing is also a suspect...

may also be the engine coolant temp sensor.

check codes and check the sensor, mine would go out intermittently and cause that problem, new sensor problem fixed.
